you'll still have to move the perches. The distance between them isn't right, the springs won't sit on them proper.

Making sure that you know you'll have to weld perches no matter what.

You guys do know that a Toyota Tacoma, 2wd, has a 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern right?

And you also know that the Taco 8.25" rear axle is 60.5 inches wide, right?

Does anybody see where I'm going with this?

The only downfall of the Taco axle is that the internals, while similar, are not interchangable with the regular Toy 8" axle. There for gear, locker and axle shaft selection is limited right now, but its popularity is growing.

ive always wondered but never tried it...but

i was wondering if i could run an 8 3/4 rear axle out of a cuda

i have an extra with a set of 4.10s and its locked...

I think its fair to say that you "COULD" run ANY axle out there. I am not fermilular with the stregnth of the housing itself. the rest is likely just fine, but if it isnt housed in a stout case, you got yourself another D35!!

My 2cents...

Here's a cool option if you need to put new spring perches on.

Don't know how far off the XJ ones are, but if it's enough, you put a second perch on and use regular bolts instead of u-bolts so you don't have anything hanging under the axle.

I saw it on NAXJA, don't know if it's popular. I guess it's called a u-bolt eliminator.

I know I read something sorta negative about using the dodge axles a while back on another 4x4 site, but for the life of me I can't remember what the reasons were. :( There's gotta be a reason they aren't very popular.

what axle is that? the perches are tall!....how did you keep the springs from moving around on the perches..

It was on NAXJA. The guy has the taller spring perches so it gave him a 1.5" lift, like using blocks.

Don't know the axle. Guessing the springs don't move due to 100+ ft/lb of torque.

It's a real simple design though, if you're planning on putting new spring perches on anyway. I'll probably be trying it on my Toy this summer.

They look like TnT U-bolt eliminators. The only problem I se with just welding on another set of perches is the centering bolt. THis is partially used to help hold the axle in place and to prevent the axle from walking on the springs. Also with the bolts so far off the spring pack there is a good chance the leaves will fan out when flexed. Not to be of a deal, unless there is enough force exerted on the bolts for them to shear.

NEW spring perches are less then 20 bucks at your local Advance Auto parts store. Just have them look in their Mr. gasket catalog.

You could go SOA with the ones that are already there, with predictably bad results..

Except for the fact that the perches aren't the same distance apart. You canNOT just drop an XJ axle under an MJ and bolt up an instant SOA

Best deal around on new perches is the universal ones from the Mopar Performance catalog. They run about $10/pair (yes, that's for the pair, they come two in the box), and they are BEEFY. Much heavier than stock XJ or MJ perches.

Apparently they're 'close enough' that with a fair amount of swearing, it will bolt up.

Not ideal for your springs or anything else.

But I've never bothered to measure to confirm this.

so i can just bolt up my xj35? it just won't be perfect?

NO. This will cause unpredictable results twist your leaf springs, and generally do bad things for your jeep. Bushings are not meant to be kept in a constant state of bind that this will cause.

Sure could- I'm running an 8 3/4 from a B-body in my TJ, never any shaft issues for 2 1/2+ years now, and it's spooled with 36" swampers. (B-body is a little narrower, E-body is a little wider)
