Replacement cps

Recommended Posts

Good morning

I have been working on getting my truck running after a 10+ year hibernation. I went through the fuel system only to find a crank and no start. Tested the CPS(thanks cruiser) and it was not in spec. So. What is the preferred manufacturer of cps. Is the dealer the only option?

I’ve got a standard one in my truck from rock auto. If you go with a high altitude CPS, it’ll advance your timing and give you a little bit more power.

Something I learned about the brand standard while working here at a ford dealer, Standard is the supplier of most, if not all of the sensors used on ford products. Granted ford products aren’t great but buying from standard should give another company that we can mildly trust with our Renix sensors.

Standard Motor Products is still located in LongIsland City, NY, which is quite nuts considering how expensive real estate is in the Queens NY area. I emailed them about the the Standard SG21 O2 sensor for Renix, and they actually responded to my email within a day saying they no longer manufacturer it.

Good and bad news in one post haha. Someone else made the O2 at least the 2.5L ones. I think it was autolight if I remember right from the NOS ones I have.

But at least we can get some standard stuff like they make the TBI rebuild kit which is good quality. I’m running a standard CPS in my Renix swapped XJ and it’s goin good.

If you haven't done the C101 (firewall main wiring harness junction) delete, the CPS signal runs through the C101 before it gets to the ECU. There was a factory TSB (and kit) to bypass the C101 and run the CPS wires directly to the ECU to improve the signal. (Renix only)

Can you clean up the old sensor and see what voltage it produces?  There is also a trick to open up the holes in the mount bracket so that it mounts a bit closer to the trigger wheel which helps produce a stronger signal.
