There's actually a little electronics store an old gent runs a few towns over who carries EVERY different kind of resistor and capacitor I could ask for and more. I was just there today to get a few that I needed. I like supporting the small businesses when I can.

That's genuinely cool. I wish there were still stores near me that carried electrical components :/

Yeah they really are getting scares. Online shopping, and the pandemic really did a lot of those small shops in.

If there's any little electical dufangles or duvisators that you need just let me know. I can always run over and pick it up from the guy and send it your way. Providing he has what you need.

Thus the reason for conformal coating :L:

I keep meaning to look into that. But also I haven't had anyone willing to help me test them so that I can go forward with something like that and sealing them up again.

I've got a guinea pig in my driveway if you want to box 'em up. :L:  you might even get a few extra on the return trip. :D

how did the testing go?

I need a new module. Mine is in good shape (took it apart to look) but intermittent does not work and hi/lo is the same speed.

Found one at local pull apart but it did not work either.

eBay has some for $70ish but how do I know they will work?

it did not go as well as expected.  he repaired a bunch, but only a couple were fully functional afterward.  :(

and there's no way to know if an ebay unit will work or not.  I wouldn't buy unless they have a rock-solid return policy.

Yeah but I have not given up on this! I've got a bunch of ideas and things I want to try or look into. But right now kind of on the back burner

I just picked up a nos module. Wondering if it will work correctly :dunno:. Any idea to keep a good one from failing? Does it need to stay cooler? Or is moisture killing them?

Moisture doesn't exactly help them but I'd argue not the big issue with them. The boards are loaded with resistors and capacitors and unfortunately over time they wear out/ dry up and will no longer hold/ control voltage. Which causes them to lose their function. So no, there's really no way to make them last forever.

You can replace the capacitors though. Which is what I've been trying to do but I have to get more in depth with my testing to find where each weak link is in each board.

I want to design a new board that either doesn't need capacitors anymore or is just.. New. instead of refurbished.

If you can figure this out for all models that use this module (GM stuff) and market it properly, you'd have a winner.

If i can get it, my main focus would primarily be the xj/mj community. But it is definitely a goal to figure this out!
