What has everyone used to replace the jute/carpet padding on their carpets? Mine's all torn up and missing pieces, and I figured I may as well replace it while I have it out.

I might have my new juke pad left over. I just have to find it. I installed a vinyl floor from ACC carpets and they include juke padding with every kind of flooring they sell regardless if you want it or not. I never installed it. I went with a closed cell foam instead.

3/4” Dynapad. Works great. Just whatever you do, don’t go with the mass backing from ACC. The heat from the floor will make that stuff constantly outages and begin crumbling over time. Regular carpet jute works well too :L:

Is the jute the blanket looking material? I didn’t put any under my carpet, because my thinking is it will hold water and rust the metal behind it ? I am still working on finding the leaks in mine l, so it still seeped rust into the carpet ruining it. I believe it would have been much worse with the padding in.

This is not quite the same, but related. We are planning to put self adhesive 1/4" rubber thick flooring (that we got for free) in our MJ and we'd like to level the floor prior laying down the flooring so the flooring adheres everywhere. Our objective is not necessarily padding or even sound deadening or heat reflection (although those would be nice). Would the recommendations be the same?

I’m sure someone will be able to answer that for you

I’m sure someone will be able to answer that for you. I’m just going by my thinking and not experience.

Find any leaks first. There is always a leaking seam somewhere as the factory’s way of sealing was to slop on some single part brushable seam sealer on the BACK side of those spot welded seams effectively trapping the moisture within the seam and causing it to rust. And there are a great many panel seams on that floor.

Personally I wouldn’t choose a floor material because it works best with a leaking cab, I’d 100% fix the leaks first so I can use the floor material I want to use. The materials that would only exacerbate a leaking cab/floor issue would be vinyl, butyl, Dynamat or any other type of impermeable material. If you have floor leaks, those materials will only make matters worse.
