EUREKA
All of the auto glass shops in my region use the same distributor, and they do not have access to windshields for 1983 - 2001 XJ/MJ. I have not been able to find the windshield for sale online. Its looking like l will have to make a 4.5 hour (each way) to purchase a windshield. Anyone know where I can purchase a windshield online? I also need the plastic clips that attach the chrome trim that surrounds the windshield to the body. Unless there is a very good reason I should go with the rubber 1-piece windshield molding? Thanks
EUREKA
founds the clips, https://teamcherokee.com/products/windshield-molding-complete-26-piece-clip-set-cherokee-1987-1996.html
eaglescout526
You could always get the later style and yank the rubber off. It’s just a weatherstrip type. I remembered I ordered a NOS one for a member on here about a year ago. Granted it might be glued to the windshield before it is installed. EUREKA
I cannot find the later style either. Not available locally and can't find it online.

Agreen
That's odd. I had safelite put a windshield in for me about 7 months ago and they didn't even have to wait for one to ship. They just used a regular ol' Cherokee windshield (in my 86) and they even replaced all the clips that hold my metal trim on (at no cost). If you can't find a new one, Maybe you can cut one out of an XJ at a u-pull-it yard?

There is no longer a wreckers in my area due to a fire, and loss of insurance. But even before that they never kept cars as old as 2001 very long before crushing them. ghetdjc320
Considering that my local auto glass shop in the middle of the pacific has them in stock, I’d say there are plenty still out there. Maybe have to cast a wider net though. Have you tried auto body/collision shops? But as a general rule, there aren’t many shops who sell just the glass online. gogmorgo
I had a few places tell me they were out of stock, discontinued, but then one shop the guy thought to himself it couldn’t possibly be true because there’s so many XJs still out there and looked it up by dimensions rather than application and found one. I guess the distributor had updated their part numbers but not the catalogue. Don’t know if that would apply in your situation or not.
Htchevyii
@EUREKAI had Joes Auto Glass in Fortuna install one in the MJ and XJ within the last 18 months, (only a few months ago for the XJ). I'm pretty sure that they had it in stock. We used the later rubber moulding on both.

EUREKA
Joes is going to get me the windshield and come to my house to install it. Thanks for the recommendation! 5 hours ago, Htchevyii said: @EUREKAI had Joes Auto Glass in Fortuna install one in the MJ and XJ within the last 18 months, (only a few months ago for the XJ). I wouldn't recommend them, they did a lot of damage to the scuttle panel and trim around the window, but they did so it and it works perfectly. Joe Dirt
I'm in jersey and just had a price of 400 with no wait from a local auto glass business. I wanna do away with the stainless that's missing anyway. Rubber looks cleaner in my opinion. My windshield was fine but got in the other day and had 2 chips. gogmorgo
Unless it’s badly pitted or delaminating I’m not convinced it’s worth paying to replace a windsheild just because of rock chips. Just get them filled asap before they turn into cracks that do require new glass. The dude with the tent in the grocery store parking lot will do them pretty cheap and won’t do any worse than the kid at the glass shop.
