Warren99
Sun visor from an 87 MJ, going into a 89MJ. Passenger side seems right, but the driver side is way too long and won’t fit. What’s the deal with this?
Pete M
yup, there are 2 different lengths of sunvisors. early vs late years if I remember right.
Gjeep
Those are both early year visors correct for '89. You just need to reposition the mounting point so it moves the visor in the direction you need it to go, then screw it down.
Warren99
Like I’d have to make new holes?
Gjeep
No, rotate the mounting base around so it will fit the existing 3 holes in the sheet metal. Looks like you may need to rotate it clock-wise.
Warren99
It only fits one way. There’s a key way and the 3 holes don’t make an equilateral triangle.
Gjeep
Ah, then maybe the visor board can loose from the post. Attaché the 3 screws again and wiggle the visor back and forth to the left (driver side). I’m assuming these visors came from the same vehicle prior? Warren99
These visors came from an 87 Comanche Chief, which was automatic and 4wd. It’s now in my 89 base model which started out as manual and 2wd and now is ax15 swapped and 4wd
Warren99
I’ll just leave it. It can still pop into the clip, just that some of the felt is against it, but no big deal
Pete M
does the tip of the long visor go past the halfway point in the middle? that definitely shouldn't happen.

Yea, it’s less than a 1/4 inch from touching the other visor. the cloth/visor part itself does have a tiny bit of side to side play along the rod, but the rod itself seems solid, not slide-able
Warren99
While I’m here, for cruise control, I’m pressing different buttons while I sit here in idle, but no lights are coming on the dash. Is the only indicator that cruise is working when your moving and engage it?
Gjeep
No lights. Just engagement.
Warren99
Oh ok, I coulda sworn there was a “cruise” light on the left side of the gauge cluster
Warren99
Jesus, has anybody melted a wire or started a fire from a courtesy light on the lower dash? I just got them hooked up and they are hot enough that it’s an instant burn when you touch them
fiatslug87
Yes, the bulbs do get very hot. You can replace with LEDs if you’re concerned.

I just need to get my butt in gear and figure out what style terminals are used on the cruise control module plug so I am not splicing wires to go to the cluster for the engagement light. But there isn’t a light either but there’s empty spots on the cluster.
Pete M
is the outer edge of the visor in the same location relative to the truck on both visors?

No, the driver side does appear to be further towards center than the left, you can see it in the pics I posted
fiatslug87
Did they fit in the Chief properly?
Warren99
I mean I don't remember noticing a problem, but I could have easily just not noticed. I'm not too worried about it, I'll just add those to the list of things I for sure need to grab from a Cherokee with a black interior next time I happen to see one.
