well i decided that runnin the MJ doorless looked bad so i'm makin half doors for the trails. Started one tonite but my sazall blade broke... :cry: here's a pic so far, i'll update as i progress.... :)

well got one bout half done. just need to get some sheet metal to finish up. BTW welding on thin metal sucks..its a long process with flux-core wire.

good start. you could have used your inner handle to open the door. just have to reach in and opeen it from the inside.... you get use to doing it after a couple of runs. plus you need a cup holder.

i LOVE the brown to tan stripe on that cherokee door...where could i get some...??

i think amc just wanted to make sure that the public knew comanche pickups were 4wd. :roll: i think they were off an '86.

i just scored 2 sheets of aluminum (6'x4' and a 2'x2' ) thats used to make race cars free from a guy at work!! woohoo so i think i'm gonna rethink the "design" of my doors. :D

just for a future reference. Are 4dr XJ doors and MJ doors the same size and compatable to switch. I just ask because it is much easier to find XJ's for parts than MJ's If I want to do a trail door project some time.

Cool thanks! I might make some doors then. I want to whell it normal for a bit first. There is alot of messy stuff where I will wheel so I willhave to really think about the trail doors.

well being only 5'5" i can barely spot myself with regular doors on...lol :lol:

Doors on a trail rig are over rated :D It is a big inconvience on cold or rainy days not having doors, or a back window for that matter :twisted:

 

I wouldn't say they are overrated.... Its all on how you set them up... THey are awesome in that they allow you to hang out the side of the truck and see whats going on, plus they are enough to keep the red&blues off of you..

 

And if you are concerned about them on cold rainy days... then either don't put them on for that trip, or get a piece of vinyl window made to snap on them (as long as you didnt cut the frame) with a zipper to open the back portion like a window(just like the YJ's) and now you are back warm and cozy...

 

Thats my plan and I'm sticking to it:D

I've decided how I'm going to make my trail doors. liek an aircraft window. I'm going to cut down and then make a pice of plexi to go over them. I'm going to make a removable hinge at the top so I can pull them all the way off. And I'm going to put a hasp on the inside to I can lock them. I'm thinking a piano hinge on the inside so it should be pretty secure. Will be nice for when you're out wheeling and leave the heep at a camp site, or go into town for dinner or something. I'll take pics, and I'm likely to get my free doors this weekend. So out come's the Sawzall.

My exo cage door bars are in the way of putting a door back on :D I made the choice of going doorless, and to remove the back window, when I made my rig strictly a trail rig :twisted:

I try to avoid mud at all costs. I think I am going to weld some tabs to the back of the cab, and get a piece of lexan to put there for the days when I am out wheeling in the rain or the snow.

I gotta imagine that cold rain hitting the back of my neck would get old after a while too. :roll:
