wid
Hey guys! Need a few tips on my 95 AW4 swap. My Comanche is a 89 factory Peugeot. My question is, does my jeep have factory automatic wiring for the 89? I know I have to splice the 95 harness into the Comanche TCU, but I just need a few tips on where to start wiring wise. Is it easier to swap the whole engine harness? Any help is appreciated!
jdog
I do not believe you have to correct wiring harness for an automatic, you for sure do not have a tcm. If you decide to swap the whole harness you will essentially be doing a ho swap. It has been done but you gotta get everything.
jdog
The easiest solution would be to find a renix jeep and get the harness/tcu 9 more posts would get you access to the classifieds and I believe someone just posted what you need. You can start a build thread and add your Vin to the registry to get a build sheet and original selling dealer
mjeff87
You will need half of the engine side wiring harness from an auto, which has the pigtails for the TCU and NSS, plus a second TPS sensor. You can swap an entire underhood harness in, but it separates into two separate halves right around the relay center area (a whole bunch of connectors and wires). The half you need runs CCW from the ECU (or the C101 connector, depending on which version you have/need), across the firewall and down the passenger side inner fender to the relay area, where it connects to the other half. The other half runs CCW from the relay area, thru/under the grill (and has a subharness for the headlights), back up the driverside inner fender and plugs (and bolts) into the C100 connector under the booster. The other half of the C100 on the other side of the firewall inside the cab attaches to the back of the fuseblock. You can leave the second half of the harness alone in yours, and just swap the "first" half and connect it all, assuming you stay within the same year range and engine configuration. edit: just reread OP's post, didn't see the "1995" the first time. That would be all HO. My instructions are for Renix. HO might be similar, but best to swap the entire harness to make sure.
MiNi Beast
I have swapped whole harness a few times now and it has been the easiest way to swap out drivetrain upgrades. I have gone from puke to ax15 to aw4 to aw4 back to ax15 and still love the control and reliability of the ax15.
eaglescout526
Wait…do you really need a whole Renix era engine harness to swap around? I know the engine side is pretty plug n play in terms of swapping things around. Like my 2.5L harness has the second plug for the TPS sensor for the auto trans. I mean maybe you do need a whole harness. Just throwing some AMC cheap idea methods out there.
oldmanche
I have contemplated doing this on my 1998 but I'm a long way from starting on it. The best info I have found was on NAXJA - I have the link saved https://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1053970. The post was for swapping the AW4 between years but you may find it helpful. The post seems to indicated 95 into an 89 is bolt-in as long as you get the 95 t-case - not sure if that is relevant with the BA10. Also states the trans/TCM wiring from 87-96 is the same so you could get that from a wide range of donors if it is not already on your truck. I think you also will need to get a TPS if yours does not already have the plug for trans.
watchamakalit
I am planning a aw4 swap in my truck at some point. There is more to it than some mention. Engine harness, shifter, shifter cable, tps, tcu, and driveshafts (maybe a differenct in the throttle body itself but I don't recall off hand) must all be addressed one way or another. I got an 89 auto trans engine harness and took the chance to go through it and cruisers tips eliminating poor factory connections and refreshing grounds. This was much eaisier to do on the bench. Its not a difficult swap' just alot involved.
wid
Thanks everyone for the help! I’ve read about swapping it around so I think what I’m going to do is fine a factory renix auto harness and swap it into mine, then go into the 95 swap from there. Luckily my local junkyard has a 1989 Comanche auto, that should have the harness (hopefully) thank you all for the replies! And I will look into posting a build thread. I’d love to get some factory information on my Manche!
