Truck doesn't turn off. Without kill switch.

Recommended Posts

So my steering column went bad and I had a shop put in a replacement non tilt steering wheel even tho mine was tilt. They spliced in a new plug for the non tilt and now it does not turn off without a kill switch. My assumption would just be where ever the off wire of the ignition switch goes needs to be replaced ? The shop couldn't even figure it out and they left me with a kill switch. What do you guys think. This thing is making me want to sell it more and more each day!

Leave it to a shop to go and screw it up for ya. What a bunch of morons. There are two styles of the ignition switch that they literally couldve went and got, a tilt, or a non tilt switch. My best guess is the rod isnt lined up correctly with the key cylinder so you may turn it to the off position but it could very well be in say the run position when crank the key back. Just a guess at this moment but I would either A make the shop redo it because thats pretty poor of them or B, tighten up the tilt mechanism(assuming this is why you had the tilt column out) and install it and make it right. Either way that shop did sloppy work.

I'm noy sure why they needed to replace the colum this is the most screwed up my jeeps ever been though. Infact they took all my egr hoses off for no reason didn't cap a single line and took my top mount battery terminals off and didn't even give them back to me. I didn't give them anything but now I have to wait till next wensday again for them to fix it

They said they got a switch and plug that works for the non tilt though.

Personally I wouldnt return to a shop who did something like that. This used to be common back when it took 2 weeks to get parts. But there is absolutely no reason to hack a vehicle up these days unless you have no clue what your doing.  Parts and info are very readily available in todays day and age.

I agree. I don't care if they know your mother. If that's the kind of work they do for friends, just think what they do to customers who aren't friends.

Either find a decent shop, or figure it out for yourself. I wouldn't allow that shop to touch my truck, ever again.
