Small lift

The factory springs are worn out and I'm considering lifting my 91.  It is a 4x4 but it is a street truck/daily driver that will only see very light off road use and I like the look of the MJ with a little lift on them.  I currently run 235's and will probably end up with 30's or 31's down the road.  For me, the main priority is ride quality, so I'm thinking of keeping it at 1.5" to 2".

 

For the front I'm thinking OME 1.5", only because I have an XJ with them and they ride great.  Pucks alone are not an option (springs need to be replace).  I don't have any idea on what to do with the rear.  I also have not a clue on shocks, but I know the 5100 Bilstein's I have on my Suburban are way to stiff.  I'd love to hear from anyone who has a small lift.  Any suggestions?

out back you might be able to do nothing but that depends on what your rake is.  the basic options for lifting the rear just a smidge are a longer shackle or an AAL (new or junkyard).

Thanks Pete.  I'm thinking once I decide on the front I'll need to go with shackles, aal or both depending on how it sits.  

 

I noticed Metalcloak has a duel rate 3.5" they say is for the TJ/LJ/XJ.  I thought that a TJ spring installed in an XJ or MJ would lower it an inch so maybe these would only be a 2.5" lift?  My online searches of the forums did not help as most people were doing more that just the springs and were not reporting back actual lift the springs provided.  I've got an email into Metalcloak to see if they might have a clue.

 

Also I've seen some folks running stock XJ up-country springs for a bit of a lift, but I'm not sure how well a JY pair of springs with 200k on them would work.

I can comment that the 3.5 Metal Cloak tj springs also lift the xj 3.5” approx (depends on weight). I have a set of the 6” metal cloak springs now.

I run the 3.5 MC dual rate springs on my 06 TJ, very nice riding spring.

 

My son would like to run 31" tires and only lift his 1992 4X4 SB about 1.5". We are ok with purchasing new leaf springs and extended shackle for the rear and spacers for the front coil springs. We really don't want to mess with the road manners to much because it drives great.  Who sells a nice riding rear leaf spring set-up? Comments?

Welcome onboard! There is one company making “reproduction” leaf springs for our trucks and the 4leaf  spring pack they make actually lift the truck about 1.5”. The springs are good quality, and are listed as factory replacements but they definitely provide lift over stock. These are the only new spring packs that provide slight lift:

They also make a 5 leaf pack which will probably net you another .75-1” putting you at around 2.5” of lift on a stock rig. A 1.5” lift provides a very nice clean stance.

MetalCloak responded to me - they said the 3.5" springs will lift a stock TJ 4.5" and a bone stock XJ/MJ 3.5" and the worst they see is 3" on a pretty heavy one.

I went with a 3 inch lift from Skyjacker And am very happy with the ride.  Running 31s also.

I have an XJ that's a 2" lift. I tried to keep it on a budget. Didn't happen. I went with 2" springs from IRO on the front. I went with Crown Upcountry leaves in the rear. Yeah, not going to work for you. I did try KYB Monomax shocks for the front. They are almost as stiff as Bilstein 5100s.  I'd possibly look at Bilstein 4600s, or Doetsch Tech shocks. I did like the Silver KYBs on my stock XJ. Stiffer than stocks, but just firm.

Yep, add a leaf rear, replacement springs in front.

Rancho has a rear AAL kit that they advertise as 2-1/2 inches for the XJ and the MJ. Since the XJ is spring over and the MJ is spring under, it can't be the same for both vehicles. I called Rancho and talked to their engineers. It's actually 1-1/2 inches of lift in the MJ.
