Dave Vig
Wondering if someone can help me. I have an 88 4wd, 4.0, 5 speed short bed Comanche. Pretty sure it has the Renault tranny in it. Attached is a picture of an AX-15 from a 84 Cherokee. Will this fit my Comanche? Any help would be great thank you
rylee144
No I don't think that will work. Ax5 came with the 2.5L. What's wrong with your ba10?
87MJTIM
The captions says it's an AX5 from an 84. The AX5 was behind a 2.5 engine, not the 4.0. The AX5 will not bolt to a 4.0. Also, the AX15 didn't come on the 4.0 until mid-89 model year. Keep looking. That is not what you want.
Dave Vig
Thank you for the replies. My ba10 seems like the synchros are going bad. Put in a new clutch had the toughest time getting it to work properly. Finally a mechanic down the street got it going. It’s running great but putting in reverse is slightly grinding unfortunately

Dave Vig
Pretty sure. Put in a second clutch master after the new clutch install. Everything is going into gear fine except reverse. It’s been a pain in the rear
scaleless
Reverse is the only unsynchronized gear, so if the clutch was dragging, reverse would be the first to show issues. That said, I think an AX15 swap is still a worthwhile investment even if your BA10 isn't trash.
rylee144
I just put in an ax15 and when I was done I didn't have reverse either. Had to bleed the master 3 or 4 times now it works great
Pete M
I would try bleeding it a couple more times, just in case.
cruiser54
Or, DON'T bleed it. Try this. Pump the clutch pedal about 40 times. Walk away for 10 to 15 minutes or longer. See how it works. There's also a procedure to get the FUZZ off the the new clutch disc.
