hakukamana
Ok, its not really the water pump bearing, but the AC bracket, mechanical fan shaft bearing assembly. The shaft is pressed into the aluminum bracket has a bearing and a shaft the hub for the mechanical fan rides on the hub and has 4 studs. I have a squeal from the bearing and need to replace the bearing. Checked online and got a reference to the part as the water pump bearing. It has nothing to do with the water pump. The only one I saw was an Omix Ada part number 17104.83 but it does not (supposedly fit and 89' Comanche). The reviews are also pretty bad, longer shaft, sloppy bearings, some have died in less than 100 miles. I tried to remove one from an old bracket I had only to break the housing in the press. Any insight for a part or replacement? Also how about a service procedure, if any no reference in the FSM.
ghetdjc320
The bearing is part of the bracket and is only available as a single piece. Not sure if new ones are available. @eaglescout526 would know for sure. At some point in time we are going to have to come up with some way to replace those bearings with an aftermarket component. eaglescout526
I am not seeing anything in the Chrysler catalog. I might have to do some more sleuthing on the service side to see if there is or was a TSB for it at some point. I do recall nickintime doing something like this at some point though. hakukamana
Perfect, thanks for the update gives me everything I need to know about exploding the aluminum casting. No seriously the part number is a life saver. The process is also greatly appreciated. I really don't want to do this more than once in the life of my Eliminator. pago cruiser
As I am going through this now, figured I would provide an update on this process. 91 HP, 176000-mile. Non Renix. Per my local bearing house today (Gopher Bearing in Tucson), NSK is out of stock on the 665325, and will not have another production run until next year. Next year! (There is also a NSK 885586 listed as a replacement in the link above by strokermjcomanche, but I try to replace like with like - as it happens I did not need to go down that path) Gopher was able to find a surplus bearing house in Michigan who has 7 of the 665325 - make that 6 now... FYI in case anybody is needing to do this soon. Also - the Renix AC bracket is slightly different than the 91/92 HP AC bracket. Easiest way to tell is that the AC Compressor mounts on extended bosses on the Renix; and into recessed threads on the 91/92 HP. I have seen a few references for the Renix indicating the bearing is pressed out thru the front of the bracket. I can confirm that for the 91/92 HP the bearing presses out through the back. 75sv1
Can you provide contact info for the 665325? Mine blew out last night. I was coming back from the PA Jeep meet. East Side of Cincy. I took off the Fan and Clutch. It did OK to get me home. I do have 2 of the 885586. They are to long. I will cut them down. Also, F(l)AG WN 6456 is the same as the NSK 665325. I did do a Web Search for both of those. No luck. I did take one apart. The hard part was getting the flange off. The bearing itself nearly pushed out. pago cruiser
Sure. Mike at Gopher Bearing 520-622-3545. They close at 1630 Tucson time; about 45 minutes from the time stamp of this email. About that 91/92 HO bracket... if you try and press it out the front, guess what time it is... . . wait... . . time to either call your fav welder/machinist, get another bracket, because you just exploded your bearing stop... 75sv1
I did a search and found Gopher Bearing's site. Sent an email, and Mike replied. I'll be ordering two of them. I have some other inquiries out. Also, checking some other brands, to see if they will work. The NSK 885586 is 1 inch longer on each side. I have two of them. I don't see how they will work. I will cut off the ends to 1.060 or so. Pago Cruiser, thanks for the info.
pago cruiser
No problem. This site is superb for the informational exchange. That did not sound fun dealing with this by the side of the road.
