Neohic’s Nest

I got chased around by the rain yesterday again. Managed to get the eaves along the front side of the house finished up and the fascia trim hung.

Made a plan for working around the breaker panels too then drew some lines to get a real idea of where things are going. Blue, brown, and browner.

The CJ was a champ yet again with bringing home material for the steel siding nailers. Didn’t get that far, but I’m ready to start ripping down lumber and attaching it to the walls.

… and of course the lumber yard was out of 12’ 5/4. 16’ is fine but less than ideal for getting home.

Found some interesting past framing decisions between the main part of the house and the old porch/now kitchen. Spent a bit of the morning cleaning that up. Once that was up to snuff, I started running the nailers for the steel siding.

Ran out of material and ran out of gumption for the day.

Almost done making up numbers to get some straight lines on this old house. The roof over the kitchen… is what it is. There’s a bit of a “wow” in the middle but I suppose if matches the roof line on the back of the house.

The gables are getting kind of a slate blue siding. Kind of tough to capture, but it’s blue.

Turning into a big project for such a little house. :fistshake2:

… then I moved all the old siding down the hill for tomorrow’s staining party.

My plan is to get the three sides of the house done before opening up the remainder of the siding.

You’re making good progress

Thanks! Feels like a real tipping point to get the majority of the steel work done. My wife asked me to take the day off tomorrow but I compromised with her staining boards with me instead. Next weekend, rehanging the old siding should go fairly quick being it’s all straight cuts with only the windows to cut around.

I imagine it can be hard to take a day off with those rocky mountain winters lookin' over your shoulder.

looks great!  :L:

Winter is always watching! :twak:

We got about 1/3 through the pile today before running out if stain. They only had two gallons sitting in the shelf at our local Sherwin and the juice just wasn’t worth the squeeze to run down the hill on a holiday weekend.

Looking really great. My fence needed to be sealed, so I came up with an idea. I put the Thompson water sealer in a pump sprayer and sprayed the fence in record time. Not sure if the sprayer will ever work again, but that’s what the life time warranty is about. Not sure why I’m sharing this ., and not sure it would work with stain? Again, coming along nicely :beerbang:

I did this with stain for the fence, the wife followed with a roller, worked great.

I figured I could not have been the first to try this :D. I was very proud of myself though!

Updates. Battens are mostly done so I started on pulling the rest of the old siding and framing the eves.

I threw on the flashing on the back side temporarily. It started sprinkling on me but there’s a factory sealed edge over the front door. The temperature started dropping and the wind picked up. Chance or rain… maybe snow?… tomorrow. :fistshake2:

Soffits are closed up, steel siding nailers are wrapped up, enough trim to get the drip edge done, and lowers corners are on.
