So this probably doesn't belong here but does everyone have to lift the handle of there tail gate to close it or is mine just thay bent that I have to do that

perhaps. two rods floating on the inside to the outside latches. if bent to much could not allow the clearance for the mechanical action to take place.  but i think you try lubing it up and see how far that gets you.

Depends on the bend, but if it pinches the rods enough to stop the latches from kicking in, I imagine it would also catch enough to stop them from retracting.

I usually lift my handles to close tailgates, but that’s mostly because I don’t like slamming them.

Mine used to require the handle to be pulled. Spray white lithium grease on the handle and rod pivot points and the latch's and it closes nicely.
