Axle shaft flange?

I recieved a damaged part in the mail from carpart.com. see bent flange in photos. It's on a dana 30 drivers side 2001.

 

Can this be fixed by bending it back? Does the flange do anything, can it be slightly bent?

 

The reason I ask is it was almost $200. Carpart is sending me a new one and said keep this one. If I can use it or sell it I'd like to recover some of the cost.

I don't see any reason you could not peen that flat and use it. It is basically acting like a heavy duty dust cover

Straighten it out you can but a new one if you really want to.

Yeah just straighten it out and make sure it doesn’t rub. You can also just remove them but they help protect the  back of the unit bearing
