I'm looking for your guys' opinions on this jeep I'm thinking about getting. Its an 87 4wd long bed with the four speed auto(I'd prefer the stick but there is always swaps) it does have 312k miles on it and isnt the most pretty color. mjs in my area are kind of rare. looking for a speedy response.

Well as Pete said, it all boils down to what you want to do as it will be your truck. Biggest thing is rust which it looks like the passenger side floor board does not have. In terms of mileage, if the engine and trans have been well maintained, 312k on the odo is nothing for the AMC 2.5L or 4.0L. Overall it looks like a good MJ to work with. But seeing the truck in person will probably help you get a better idea of its shape.

pop the oil filler cap and peek at the insides.  at 300k I'd assume it was well maintained, but that doesn't mean it's had an oil change in the last 30k and the rockers could be caked in sludge.  be prepared to start swapping out soft parts and change all the fluids.  :L:

below the carpets, rust cancer starts there, also if the steering components havent been replaced, expect the steering wheel to be a lil loose, and drive back slowly in case there is death wobble

it's a utah truck.  the usual things (rust) aren't as much of a concern for you guys. :D   the basic used-car items apply.  look for hacked up wiring or other PO shenanigans, make sure you bring it up to operating temp, take it for a test drive, etc.

How does the MJ seem so far?

it has a list of mile long of whats wrong with it.

it runs and drives great no rust on the unibody only on the hood and the tail gate. it needs a new bench as well. I'm really stoked about it. and it has the dana 44 rear
