Steel cable

Has anyone tried to do anything with steel cable? I want to try to reproduce the Renix cruise control servo cable clips. But this would mean I need to either figure out how to dismantle the original cables or make new ones. And making new ones would probably be a better idea than trying to remove those crimps on the ends.

Yes. I just posted a pic of what I’m trying to do.

You posted as I was typing.

It's not hard to find some kind of ferrule that you can crimp on with a crimping tool.  Getting them off is easy if you don't mind making the cable a little shorter.  Otherwise, you could cut off the existing ferrule and crimp a new one on.

I don't know what consequences there could be if I made that cable shorter other than it may not reach the throttle linkage. I also have some of the early 2.8L ones that I want to replace with the newer Renix style clips and give them longer cables as they are pretty damn short and mounting a 2.8L servo to reach say the 4.0L mount and the 2.5L mount can make some areas cramped.

If thats the name of that crimp thing then I will look into it!
