Southpaw
I've Been Told that the Jeep trucks are rising in value only if they're four wheel drive.. I have an original two-wheel drive I would like to restore it as a two-wheel drive.. 87 Jeep Comanche Limited can anybody tell me why the two wheel drive don't have a value
eaglescout526
Because most folks when getting a Jeep naturally expect it to be 4 wheel drive. So if they get a two wheel drive they will have to put in more work and effort to make it the truck they want vs the truck they can buy with 4 wheel drive. Don’t fret about that too much. The MJ is rising in value regardless of which wheel drive it is. I have a two wheel drive and I restored it and I love it. It’ll go just about anywhere it was designed to minus the situations where you would absolutely need 4 wheel drive.
NHMJXJ
I would echo Eaglescout526 that there's an expectation a Jeep will be 4WD. Personally, I wouldn't buy a Jeep that wasn't 4WD (again). Had this very conversation with @HOrnbrod whose truck you see in the banner. A beautiful 2WD. I live in New England, so 4WD is a nice thing to have. As to value? Regardless of equipment, there's an a$$ for every seat, so the value is relative to condition, region, desire and deep pockets.

Thanks I was looking at the gas mileage they say the 87 six cylinders got about 20 miles to the gallon plus with the ground clearance and maybe adding a winch should should go a lot of places thanks again for the response
Dzimm
I wouldn't read too much into value of 2wd vs 4wd. Overall condition of the truck is getting more important than anything else but 4wd can help make it sell faster. As far as gas mileage, a 2wd with manual trans will typically give you the best results with less spinning mass and manual shifts. Really though, I got the same 18-22mpg in my lifted 97+ swap 4.0 AW4 as I did with my 92 4.0 AX-15 when it was stock.

If you live in the rust belt, you shouldn't drive the truck in the winter because they are rare and climbing in value, and if you live in the south, you won't probably need 4wd for the snow. There are quite a few people in AZ that do mild wheeling with their 2wd trucks.

Yep I live in Michigan where rust is the favorite color hopefully I'm going to pull this down to the frame and clean it up I would like to keep it two wheel drive the ground clearance will be a big help

dasbulliwagen
I'm sure as you know living in Michigan, driving ability matters more than having 4wd in the winter. I spent the first 28 years of my life there and never had a 4wd, and rarely got stuck..... I take that back, I did have a Grand Wagoneer for a little while toward the end. That thing was a tank through the snow!

Yep we just make sure we had some friends with us and some shovels and we actually used wood ash from the wood stove every time we got stuck but I plan on moving the Missouri once my house sells and if I'm able to get this thing rebuilt it will never see the snow just a few two tracks to and from my bow stand hopefully this thing is really clean I'm not used to being able to take bolts out without torches and grinders and break away it's a whole different world
