Pete M Posted September 1, 2020 Share Posted September 1, 2020 while we're all waiting impatiently for Eaglescout to share his NOS finds, here's my haul for the day. went on a quickie run to a junkyard that had 12 Libertys to grab some tow hooks or skids, and 11 were 2wd and the other was already robbed of the hooks. (still scored a t-case skid). but then I spied an 87 Laredo XJ and beat myself up in the georgia summertime for a few hours. totally worth it and if you're wondering how I stuffed all that into the Libby... I didn't. had to put the front seats on the roof rack. but that's why I have a roof rack not pictured is a steering wheel (someone tore the column apart and ruined it, but left the wheel on the floor), donut spare tire cover, visors, TB, and a bunch of little brackets. miiiight go back another day for the front bumper and the 21 spline 242 t-case. maybe. Pete M Posted September 1, 2020 Author Share Posted September 1, 2020 I did discover a lot of spray foam inside the otherwise nice passenger door (noise issues?), and the 4.0 engine has a front hood prop. Hmm that looks like a 44 rear..... Yea you got lucky with that. I’ve seen a ton of xjs all over the south and never found a factory 44. Any interest in selling the rear axle or are you planning to put it in your truck? If I were sticking with the maroon interior on my 89 I'd be frantically mashing your PM button right now. Did it have the $#!&ty Bendix ABS system? FrankTheDog Posted September 2, 2020 Share Posted September 2, 2020 I’ve pulled several 44’s out of XJ’s. They were all out of 87 XJ Wagoneers with the tow package. All were relatively loaded. It was only offered on XJs with the 242, which is what made me think of it. 99% of those systems probably got ripped out and replaced with something that works 20+ years ago. Sir Sam Posted September 2, 2020 Share Posted September 2, 2020 My 88XJ was a Laredo and MJ 88XJ was a limited. Both had 242s. next Jeep I had was a 93 sport with 5speed. Very basic, mini console and manual windows, no AC. but no CAD and the 231 transfer case seemed normal since it was a manual it would be different. then I got a 2000XJ freedom, again auto with 242. Sometime after that I got a 96XJ auto/231. it wasn’t untill about this time that I figured out the 232 was the default transfer case, and not the 242. Overall more of my jeeps have had 242s than 231s. Didn’t know about the CAD axles for a long time as well. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
