Was cleaning my engine bay and I found this covered in grime. I cleaned it with CRC and gently brushed. I just can’t find where it goes or what it may be for.

Minuit he can't add it. I tried to. It is like the wiring is there but not on the dash side. I think only the HO's are wired for it but the Renix MJ's aren't.

I could be wrong and just have faulty wiring somewhere.

CoastCheif, try jumping the two pins together and see if anything happens. Chances are the bulb isn't in that spot.

That would be a bafflingly stupid but not-so-surprising twist for them to have included half (but only half) of this circuit. I know for a fact a '91 is wired for it, but without the bulb in the cluster.

Do not expect the cluster to have the bulb. But yes, you should try a bulb in that position and see if anything happens when jumping the pins of the connector. My bad for the assumption. All of this assuming a light that annoys the piss out of you when you use around half of your washer fluid is of any interest to you.

See I thought this would be dumb too. After reading Hornbrods post on it I decided to hunt down one of the sensors and I fiddled with the damn thing for a couple hours. Tried the bulb in different spots just incase and I got nothing. I think the circuit is there when there is the rear wiper wiring.

Oh Ohm!

Oh Ohm!

In 1991, they gave you the WHOLE circuit!

I have an extraneous connector for a rear washer pump in my harness. Nothing on the interior for a rear wiper/washer switch of course, but the pump connector is there.

Jeep used the same wiring harness for XJs.  The second connector powers a pump for the rear window washer on the XJs.

88XJ Electrical Manual shows Low Washer Fluid is powered up by the Radio Fuse. 88MJ Electrical Manual doesn't show this. Not much information in either manual to help anyone. Minuit photo of dash (Low Washer) show bulb is in a different location than that of the 88MJ Manual. I think (since its there) Engine Harness is equipped, IP Harness is not.

The 88 XJ I just picked up has that sensor and the dash light works - sporadically.
