Thank you Minuit,

I really want to get it as stock as possible. I’m looking for NOS black mirrors. I thought about what a handful of members told me. “ it’s only stock once”. So I’m exploring what I can do to really get it sharp.

first wash-

Stock Rx 171-173 radios

Today I picked up two wheels from a ladero XJ at pickapart for 78$

Have anymore pictures of what looks to be a carpeted bed area? Is the camper top actually set up to camp in?

I was told it’s a old carpet kit. The camper is just a little larger. I do plan to camp and go fishing with the Jeep soon.

I had a friend who had a old dodge V10 that had a camper on it and had the bed area look exactly like that. I’d do the exact same if I had a bed shell but I don’t.

I love seeing old trucks with old camping setups. Really displays how we over complicate stuff these days.

A big reason why I got this truck in the first place, really. I just enjoy how simple it is.

Today marks one month of ownership with the Jeep. Got her and I some special gifts, drove 2 hours to pick this Jeep. Got there right at opening. Was sad to see how poorly treated she was in 24hrs. Broken tail light from whoever ripped the tailgate off etc. I could tell someone was hiding parts in the truck bed. Trying to hide the matt and all the emblems under old Renegade parts. No hiding from me!  I was extremely happy to see it had AC and a lot of accessories that I really wanted. Got a AMC bed matt, and the Warn brush guard that mounts to the stock bumper. Along with some small things, like headlight guards, and extra caps, emblems. Disappointed to find the rear window was severely damaged with a plexi inserts. I left the wheels because a member had been working on getting me really clean ones. On my way out another Comanche pulled up and took some small engine parts, surprised he didn’t take more. Got a few meetings with suppliers for the rubber for reproduction body molding tomorrow morning aswell. On a personal note: this Jeep has been a good luck charm so far.

Excited for the future!

Cheers!

thank you for all those who help along the way!

Good scores! Excited to hear about the body moldings. Seems like everyone has been finding factory rear bumpers lately. Shame no one will ship.

Oh hahaha. Lol. I actually still have that decal intact under my hood. Took me a year to figure out what that sticker was.

Hahaha! I saw how nice your Jeep was turning out. Thought of you immediately when I saw the sticker. I’ll gladly send it out for reproduction soon. Maybe some folks here want them? Also, any diagram or parts list for the AC? I just cut out the controller. I have no idea what I’m looking for 😅.

We really are, surprised how well preserved everything is. If you drive out there might be some out here!

should be passing through in September. :D  I'll have the camper in tow though so I won't be able to snag anything bigger than a tailgate. :(

ONE MONTH OVERVIEW

( Purchase Date: 01/28/20)

( Today’s Date: 02/28/20)

This is a short review of my 1988 Jeep Comanche with 1 month of ownership. I have put close to 800 miles on the Jeep do to trips to LA (54miles) and most recently San Diego (124miles). Tempted to drive to PHX,AZ for a friends show.

 OVERALL

- I don't think I would ever sell it.

INTERIOR -
At first I was extremely worried about owning a bench seat and having so much ridged plastic. Iv driven many newer vehicles with fancy lumbar support, and vented seats etc. To my surprise the bench seat promotes posture, and is fairly squishy in the best ways. Driving for over 2 hours In 75 degree weather. I did not feel fatigue, driving manual keeps me shifting my weight from side to side. All your attention is focused on the road. The Jeep feels comfortable enough.  I do not have cup holders, electronic windows, or a rear window, or deep rooted complaints. The only real thing I really would love is AC. Regardless, I dry to a raisin with a smile on my face.

I enjoy how simple the dash is, It’s everything that I need, nothing more. No bell, and whistle distractions, it’s a truck. The material quality seems to have proved it value with over 30 years in service.  When it comes to repair on the MJ. Removing and installing parts is easy on the interior. It’s refreshing not popping plastic, or metal pins, or needing special tools. I just use a screwdriver for the most part.  Its from a simpler time when you could comfortably fix your own property. The applied psychology of the car is sound with the customer in mind. Everything feels exactly where it’s supposed to be, within reach. All the nobs, switches, are also simple. It’s easy to get inside, and immediately understand the vehicle. Behind me, the carpet kit does have a distinct sunburn carpet smell, familiar to people that have been on boats.

VALUE

It’s a truck made by AMC Jeep with under 200k produced. It’s a sibling the XJ, a car that was made until 2016 in China. If a US/FR/MX/CN manufactured Frankenstein vehicle doesn't interest you? What does?  With XJ numbers over 2 million plus. With a rising off-road/ DIY culture. Anything with limited numbers , and period present design quality will rise in value. The XJ has been featured on a growing number of collectors lists. Including many “ cars to buy” videos.  The number being taken off the road is greater than staying on the road being taken care of. With contemporary references of the Comanche by Jeep during press releases. Further drives interest in the car. The 1980s is the new childhood for most adults. If you look at pop culture currently, the 1980s-90s have never been cooler! Queen, Spaceflight, gaming culture, electronics, Top Gun 2, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Sonic, Dungeons and Dragons, Magic the Gathering, Cold War, Bill Murray, Ghost Busters, Etc. All the fun stuff from the 1980s is........BACK FROM THE FUTURE..( see what I did there)

The Jeep Gladiator/ Tesla Truck / Tacoma/ Colorado/F-150 etc. Have become some of the stars of current American car culture. I would be hard pressed to be convinced. That a small numbers production run, workhorse  offshoot of one of the most iconic off-road vehicles ever made. From one of the most iconic American auto brands at its height. Would not go up in value in the future auto market. As auto buyers age, and gain wealth. They want to gain a piece of the past. Some just wanted a reliable Jeep and not a Fiat that falls out of gear after 60k miles. I wanted a MJ because of an XJ my sister owned. It would never die and get us anywhere we wanted. Many people who grew up around, or seeing these are entering there 30s-40s early 50s. 1980s vehicles are next in line for classics.  American ( well mostly American) made is becoming a rarity with global trade and economics. These are the last of their kind. Simple, digestible work vehicles, with consumer friendly repair in mind.
