Liketosmash
Anyone have pictures of the rear interior panels in or out of the truck. Trying to get an idea of what these look like as they are missing from my truck. It's mostly a buy vs build question on what I want to do on the back wall and so far I'm not real impressed with the other plastic panels in the Comanche or Cherokee. It's items 5 and 6 in the picture below and from what I can tell they are still available new at $45+ each

schardein
In my experience, all MJs came with the upper plastic panel. If it's missing, someone took it out. The lower carpet piece was mostly used in trucks with buckets seats, because it was visible. Bench seat completely covers the rear wall. I say mostly, because I've seen some 86 models with the bench seat and it still had the rear carpet. I suspect that later models the carpet panel was deleted when a bench seat was installed as a cost savings move.

schardein
My 91 with bench seat did not have the rear carpet (I added it from a jy MJ). It's a SporTruck, so pretty basic, 4.0, auto, AC were about the only options. Didn't even have a factory radio. Maybe the rear carpet was a trim level thing. I ask because the rear carpet panel mounting brackets should be under the rear carpet. They are covered by lift up flaps in the original carpet. See my pics above. Even my factory vinyl floor cover has the flaps to access the rear carpet panel mounting points.

The spare tire instructions were stuck right to the rear cab wall on mine. Without looking at the brochures, I suspect the Pioneer package added the rear carpet (as it added floor carpet) and it was probably available as a separate option on otherwise base trucks. The diagram shows THREE mounting brackets on the rear carpet (#6). No rear carpet I have ever seen has three mount points, only the middle and pass side. Hmm. rylee144
Yes. I replaced the carpet. Mine is a pioneer
eaglescout526
The third mounting point was probably going to be there but AMC probably removed it due to the jack being strapped in place right there. Mine is a Pioneer and has it as well.
Liketosmash
Thanks everyone for all the pictures and information. Might try to find a top panel and build my own for the rest. I still don't have a clear picture of what I'm doing on the interior yet but this gives me a great starting point.
500 MJ
FWIW - Both of my trucks were base models with bench seats when I got them. The '88 had the blue carpet behind the seat with the jacking instructions sticker on the carpet, the '90 did not have the carpet and the sticker is still stuck to the back of the cab, under the gray carpet that I have now put in there.
