hey,

 

how hard would it be to build your own SYE?

 

I've just been wondering...

 

cause it seems to me that if I were to drill and thread the center of the output shaft, then combine a front d.s. yoke from the t-case with a slip-yoke, and bolt it up, that would be all I would need..

 

flawed thinking? probably...

You get the advantage of the shorter output and elimination of the slip joint, but you still have a small weak output shaft that is easy to snap. The full SYE gives you a much thicker output shaft.

I agree it may prove to be a waste of time. My RE hack n tap kit would not seal worth a damn, I couldn't imagine a home brew set up being any better (atleast anything that I could produce :roll: ).

I would take the slip yoke from the original driveshaft and cut the end off of it. then weld a front yoke onto it (centered of course) and have it balanced by itself. drill a hole in the end, and thread/bolt it down :D

 

it could work I think. I actually think that I can take the outpt shaft from my spare tranny and have it duplicated for greater strength and tolerance from a stronger/thicker/better metal.

 

we shall see if I can. eventually. I was just thinking...

That was my brothers 242 snapping the mainshaft where the speedo gear splines are.

 

maximum suckage rebuilding a t-case instead of wheeling the next day.

yep, that's exactly what his looked like.

 

When I heard it and from what the Jeep did I though he busted an 8.8 shaft.

 

I guess the 8.8 is stronger than a 242.

It's 200lbs here, 300lbs there, the next thing you know your truck weighs about 6500lbs.

good point, thats why you run super weak axles and no cage... don't you know anything? :roll:
