Hope I haven't put this in the wrong place, but need some input. I am a member of several online groups for turtle owners and one person stated they are using air line quick disconnects for their filters. I never thought of them as being water tight.

Ideas and opinions please

thanks

Why would they not be?  The limitation on them is they use cheap seals so they won't hold up to most chemicals, nor can they exceed about 150PSI reliably.  I'm guessing you're not going to be putting harsh chemicals through them or running anywhere near that much pressure.

Oh, they don't flow that well either.

If the fitting leaking will cause massive damage or kill all your turtles, you might want to do something else though, as like I said the seals they use are typically quite cheap.

thanks DirtyComanche, I was thinking the same thing ----

probably better in the long run to just get garden hose disconnects

The other thing about running water in a cheap air-line quick connect is that they don't seem particularly resistant to rust, which can seize up the slidey bit. Especially with mineral- (or turtle poop)-heavy water, even a microscopic drop could lead to rust.

We use standard plastic quick connects on the cooling system for our asphalt sleds to connect them to our cool down cart.  Have had no issues

thanks all, ended up finding a deal on larger canister filters, that have a QC built in. Just need to add shut off valves --- way easier. :beerchug: :thanks:
