Kyleinreallife
where does it smell like fuel, out the back or in the engine bay? More so from the engine bay

Pete M
is your charcoal filter hooked up and the associated lines in good shape?
Kyleinreallife
is your charcoal filter hooked up and the associated lines in good shape? I’ll check, I know it’s there, haven’t inspected the lines closely. Anyone have a diagram of those particular ones? What effect would it not being hooked up have? Pete M
fumes from the gas tank are captured by the carbon inside the canister. then when you start the truck, the fumes get sucked into the engine to burn. It's an emissions thing, but removing it can lead to a gasoline smell in the engine bay.

Cool thanks, I’ll make sure it’s hooked up properly

Kyleinreallife
Looking for pic of stock manifold. I’m starting to think my whole exhaust manifold was replaced at some point which would explain the mismatched egr and o2 sensor...here’s what I have: this front lower bolt hole doesn’t line up and neither does the rear lower....all other have bolts in them...ideas? 87 XJ Wagoneer Ltd I-6 NP242 AW4 HPD30/D44
DirtyComanche
That looks like a factory exhaust manifold or one of the O/E style replacements. Likely those holes line up, but there is a broken off stud in them. A large exhaust leak can screw up the O2 sensor readings and cause poor mileage and performance. It also looks like the CPS wiring is burning itself to death right now. Whatever is draped across the exhaust, move it and secure it.

The holes just don’t line up..I felt around inside with a hex key and could push it all the way in, those two holes are just ~1/8” askew in equal and opposite directions which made me think it had been changed. 87 XJ Wagoneer Ltd I-6 NP242 AW4 HPD30/D44

Yeah, it might be warped but there's a good chance it was just installed poorly... If it won't line up, at that point a guy might as well oval the holes so at least you can get a bolt in them, or buy a new manifold. Most of them are cracked anyways... carnuck
The exhaust pipe hangs down and stresses it out. I had to rat tail file mine to fit over studs. The water pump swap is probably when the stud was left out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

carnuck
It seems more than 1/2 the Jeeps I’ve worked on were already missing those front and rear manifold alignment studs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
