diesels do not like the cold. :(   My liberty drops at least 10-15mpg if it's below freezing outside.

doesn't help that the grille/fan arrangement up front doesn't lend itself to an easy covering for the radiator.  :fistshake2:

Depends on what engine you've got and what fuel you're running.  Winter blend diesel typically has less BTUs, but it's not by a lot (5% maybe).  Running Jet-A I normally saw an increase on the highway in the winter with my 12V and 24V Dodge piles, vs the summer with the same fuel, the turbo really enjoys the colder air.  But around town, idling it all the time, constant use of 4wd to not get stuck, etc, it would suck.  The dually was especially bad, the extra tires really see a lot of added resistance in the snow.

More modern stuff seems to often not like it as much, the emissions systems freak out if the engine/exhaust is kept cold and will actively try to do something about that.

So me and my girlfriend are scratching Los Angeles off the list. We decided to drive my truck, trailer and John's truck to Bo's house and drop it off. Then either go to Noahs place In death valley then to Vegas for 2 days or Bo's, 2 days in Vegas then to Noahs. Then either way, back to Bo's to get black betty and my trailer and haul home!

Made it to Bo's house in 29 palms!

1900 miles and 3 days later.
We left Indiana Friday night at 730 and didnt make it to Wichita like we had planned. But got up early saturday morning and drove 16 hours to Albuquerque. Stayed at a $70 hotel had an ok experience.
Got up at 9 and drove 10 hours to 29 palms.
$620/209 gallons in fuel and 4 gallons of exhaust fluid.

So it cost me about $50 to drive out here.

Cruising around palm springs right now then back to Bo's to relax and talk jeep!

Well be heading to panamint springs in the morning. Then Vegas the next morning for 2 days. Then back to Bo's for the night then back home with black betty!40177fe2f73a4fe0f2507eb55f4ac98c.jpg38bd56ae74048829ed935a3a78d56982.jpg61423d127af5076fcd6582b6b3b38b99.jpgb341a193544f1cac3019dd4cc20255c8.jpgfc9ef28b15dec2350ed2e8b3f56de94f.jpgdc6858be84a5c0ec49202cf2e45f7bed.jpge23c4a9bd038ac26d76320a9b78c4df2.jpg

Their was an old miner at the turn of the century. He had a claim on the mountain. He would tell people that he was going pan a mint on that mountain. That’s how it got the name. Cali was full of characters like that. Called him Panamint Jim.

Last time I was was in Death Vally was an El Niño year and they were kayaking on the Vally floor. Water was so salty if you put a leather boot in it you may as well throw them away. You could have floated a nail in it. Me and buddy started in the morning at mount Wilson the highest point in the lower 48 and headed to Death Vally the lowest point in the lower 48 in the same day. My buddy is a geologist and did some field work in the Panamint area. It was a hell of a trip. That night the wind was so strong it moved my pop-up sideways. We packed it in after that went across the border and got a room at a casino. My buddy Paul got up early and started plays slots and won enough to pay for the room and breakfast. It was the rite move packing it in.

"Wilson"????   Your spell checker got it wrong.  It is Mt. Whitney.

No my brain got it wrong. Whitney is correct. What can I say it was a late night text. We tried to get to the top. It was deep snow and the road was closed so we hiked until the snow was crouch deep then called it done. That’s a fun trip if your ever in Cali. From snow to sand dunes in the same day. An absolute blast. Hay Crusty tell us how it going. Any fresh graves in the desert?

Well, it's legal in all states AFAIK as long as the vehicle has both left and right exterior rear view mirrors mounted, so no violation. I wouldn't care for it at all though...

I feel the same, but once you go to too large of a tire you run out of good places to put a spare, without sacrificing your bed space or massively degrading the already poor aerodynamics.

with enough rear bumper, who needs rear visibility?  :D   I certainly don't.  :peep:

Pete that's a universal bed tire mount? or did you make something that ties in the rear bumper?
