Bonkers
Okay, swapped the Ax15 into my 88 4.0 last year. Had some CPS issues, but finally got it running for about six months before sidelining her for the winter. Duriing that time the CPS decided to stop working again. Today i spent 9 HOURS swapping the 5 CPSs ive accumulated during this nightmare. 4 of the 5 work fine in the other Mj. Ive over drilled the mounting holes so they can sit closer to the fly wheel, and ive banged them all with a hammer to bend them. When #6 CPS failed tonight ive pretty much given up. The logicical voice in the back of my head says it must be a flywheel issue, but could that even happen? ... anyway if anyone has ANY possible solutions, I'm listening, otherwise the only realistic thing for me to do at this point is go back to the Ba10, if thats even possible... cruiser54
Deja vu for me. I bought an 88 with the same issue. came with 5 or 6 factory CPSs. No signal from any of them. Here's what I finally did.
omega_rugal
if they work in the other MJ then soemthign is wrong with you flywheel... or wiring...
Bonkers
Cruiser, how did you get the metal to shift? I tried on my bad CPS, and the casing just broke apart making it useless. Still struggling, no closer to getting a signal...
cruiser54
I removed the plastic piece using this method: http://cruiser54.com/?p=127 Then, I cut out the top of the metal bar. Slid the CPS back to the cut, tapped it down and there ya go.
Bonkers
CPS #7. $50.00 NOS Mopar Siemens part, zero signal... At this point i can only figure it HAS to be a flywheel issue. Has anyone else had this issue from a LuK flywheel? If it wasnt for the fact that the truck ran for 2000 miles with no issue on the new flywheel/CPS i would have figured this was a wrong part issue... cruiser54
Consider sacrificing one and do what I did.
omega_rugal
conect the cps to an analogue multimeter and quicky swing an IRON piece in front of the tip, you MUST get some sort of signal, if so, then you must consider you flywheel may be bad
Ωhm
On 10/1/2017 at 7:06 PM, omega_rugal said: .. or wiring... Pin each CPS wire back to the ECU for continuity. If your still running with C101 (Engine Control harness to Injector harness) disconnect and inspect entire connector for crud.
cruiser54
So, you're getting no output directly from the CPS, correct?
DirtyComanche
I find it hard to believe a flywheel would be far enough out of spec to cause a lack of signal... But hey, it's aftermarket parts, so setting new lows in quality control is an everyday occurrence. Clarify if there truly is no output from the CPS via cranking with a multimeter pinned into it, then go from there. There probably is SOME output, even if the flywheel is out of spec, but if it is too weak then you can be reasonably certain it isn't another part of the wiring. gogmorgo
Which flywheel did you end up using? Needs to match the engine management. Mostly they don't interchange at all but for some reason I remember another member had a similar issue where it worked for a bit and then quit with an HO flywheel in the Renix system, and swapping back to a Renix flywheel fixed it. I also remember a thread from long ago about aftermarket flexplates with the timing windows in the wrong spot. If you don't remember which one you got, you should be able to tell by pulling the inspection cover and looking at the side. Renix has windows all the way around the edge, but HO is solid with windows only at the 120° marks.
