krustyballer16
So I've built and sold a few sets of these mini rub rails for Cherokees. The first customer got his installed and I posted pictures on an xj facebook page. Big mistake. Bunch of 12 year old internet know it all a$$holes. Can't have a legitimate conversation with any of them. Got mixed opinions about the rub rails. So since I know we're all mature here, what are you guys' overall opinions on these? Dzimm
They look good. I could be wrong on this but I think they would be most useful for light impacts since the footprint on the sheet metal is so small, I can imagine that anything more than a light scrape will cause the whole quarter panel to buckle around where it is mounted. I do have to say it is probably stronger than just a factory quarter but not quite as strong as the full size rub rails. Some people may also like the look of this over the full size ones, I myself think the full ones look a little rediculous on some rigs. As long as your priced well based on what the full size rub rail panels cost, I think it would be a good product.
cody4359
everybody has options, so you should go rub it on a tree or rock and see what happens. if I had an xj, depending on results, I'd opt for them. we have some tight trails around me and what I see them being used for is tree guards. if your worried about it, possibly you could make a stuffiness on the inside that mouth with a few bolts down low? It all really depends on what the customer is using them for. This guy just wants a little protection for his sons daily driving/slight wheeling. He didn't like the looks of full armor. Rub rail to me means slight rubs on trees or rocks. Not hard hits lower like quarter armor would protect from. I advertised them for $175 shipped on facebook and EVERYONE could make them for cheaper than I sell them for so I'm not sure. I didn't sell the first couple prototype sets for that much though... And I didn't mess with full quarter armor because there's 50 companies that make them just as cheap or cheaper than I could so I'm not wasting my time on that. Lol. Dzimm
Yeah in all honesty that isn't a bad price at all since you include shipping. And of course everyone could fab something like this for cheaper, mostly because they spend their own time and don't have to ship it. Lol. Some people just don't get it. There is definitely a market for these, don't let the immature children discourage you.

jeeppapa
There is always some knowitall sitting on his @$$ doing nothing ready to shot down someone's idea or jump on a person who has a legitimate question. If they have nothing productive to say ignore them and move on to the people that do. Some people like to throw a wrench into things for their own amusement. Don't let them get under your skin because that's the reason why they do it. It looks like a good product. 87Warrior
The rub rails look well built, nicely executed and clean. I am in the camp of folks who would not install such a product on my rig, but that is because I don't push my rigs to the point of needing something like that. Those rails would be the perfect spot to hang a hammock from when camping.
krustyballer16
Basically everyone was saying just mounting the rub rail was a horrible idea cuz it would shatter the glass instantly. Every impact or slight rub and glass is shattered, no matter what. But I've seen that glass shattered with jeeps that that the full armor. Just depends on the rub/hit. Some guys would appreciate it being there then others would wish they never installed them because it did more damage than not having them. Too many variables and situations to know a for sure outcome. I'm still working on mj bed rub rails and bed rail caps too. Dzimm
I'm definitely interested in MJ bed rail caps. Shipping those would probably be a nightmare however.
Minuit
posted pictures on an xj facebook page There's your problem! I know I whine about this a lot but every single Jeep related FB page I know of is filled with the most immature trash I've ever seen, and this isn't just one. At one point I was on at least 5-6 of these pages and they were all filled with that kind of people. Big part of why I haven't logged into my FB account other than to check messages or post stuff on the CC page in months. The rub rails are fine and I'm sure they're top quality as always. Your last statement, however, without a plate behind to support the load sounds like a bad idea. Unless you happen to be a small/lightweight person. Full armor makes more sense. , IMO. To counter the 'doesn't like full armor' , the armor could be painted body color to be practically invisible to most.

What I was looking for but facebook is too immature. Lol. I didn't ever take the interior panel off the inside of my jeep to see what was behind there to see if a plate would fit. I don't like nutserts so that's not how I would mount mine. I thought about a plate but didn't want to waste time and material if it wouldn't fit (since I sent out the first sets for people to try themselves. And they all knew they were prototypes) Nobody has noticed that these aren't very wide and don't stick out past the flares. That's what this guy wanted. They're 3.5" from the body. The other sites were 4.5". Sent from my HTC One M9 using Tapatalk
Dzimm
Behind the interior panel on the passenger side there is a pretty good opening that wouldn't be too hard to get a plate into place. The drivers side has the extra bracketry for the spare tire and iirc something else as well. If you can build a plate to shimmy into the space, I don't see why you couldn't make it work! I really like the hammock idea and the more I think about it, the more useful this gets for an overlander type build. If you were to put a plate on the back side of the sheet metal, I'm really curious how much vertical weight it could take before causing damage. I'm 360 lbs so if I were to be in a hammock hanging on it, I wouldn't want to rip a whole in the Jeep and end up on my a$$. Lol

Lol If nothing else, plates tying in the holes vertically, 2 or 4 at a time would work if a full plate won't fit. And I'm sure as long as you're not jumping on the rub rail that it would hold weight. A couple hundred pounds at a time. And a hammock isn't straight down or straight out stress, more diagonal. If I put these on my jeep, I would plan to use them as a step to the roof so... krustyballer16
I also put a winch behind my stock bumper and built a new hitch. I'm not sure how I even pulled Trailers and yanked people out with mine...had a little rust and some holes in it Sent from my HTC One M9 using Tapatalk
HOrnbrod
That's a slick hidden rear winch. I like it.
