New Jeep Wrangler JKU Take-off Factory Wheels

Needed new tires for the wife's JKU, so picked up a take-off tire/wheel set like the below fresh off a new 2017 JKU 75th Anniversary Edition that was getting lifted and customized. Looked inside the wheel for the p/n to verify and it was stamped "China" on one of the spokes alongside the Mopar p/n. Everyone outsources everything now.    :shake:

Nice!!! I thought about getting those wheels for the Mj. Thought the black and bronze would look good.

The dirty work is done out of country now, for the most part. 

 

 

Made in America..........now...........Assembled in America.

 

 

Just the way it is.

Uh, yea. My employer is as guilty as any. (Can't say whom). All of the machining and foundry work is slowly being moved out of the country. We were told they could buy six parts for one we made. Don't ask about quality, though. We still have our pensions and excellent benefits but every six years they are renegotiated.

Since Chrysler (and all the other US and foreign car builders) have to warranty their products, they impose strict guidelines and standards on the manufactured parts that they outsource. They have to. And the overseas suppliers usually follow them to the letter since the contracts are lucrative and they have tons of competitors who will gladly take their place. So It doesn't bother me that much. But the offshore junk that's manufactured and marketed with little or no oversight except their own I stay away from.

Probably 15 years ago I bought some American Racing wheels for an XJ,

Proudly said "Made In USA" on the outside of all the boxes,

 

but each wheel had one of those cheesy little oval "Made in China" stickers on the inside of the wheel where the tire would cover.

 

If I didn't pick them up bare to install tires myself I would have never known.  :fs1:

New 17" Jeep bronze wheels/tires installed........
