shelbyluvv
We have owned and loved our KL Cherokee Trailhawk for over a year. It was a great little Jeep. It had one issue though. Early 2014s were plagued with a weak snap ring in the transmission. Jeep's fix was to remove the 3-2-1 down shift. Unless you came to a complete stop for two seconds the tranny would stay in 3rd gear. This was extremely dangerous when trying to pull out from a yield or slow merge. When we bought it, it was fine. It was a recall and they took away my 2nd gear. I was always worried that it was going to cause my wife to get hit or the trans to fail on her way to work at 0400. So I bid you farewell baby bird!We welcome your replacement, a BIG BIRD!We replaced the KL with a 2017 JGC Trailhawk. It has the 5.7 Hemi, air adjustable suspension and super sexy Rhino paint. While the payment is a LOT more I have piece of mind that my wife is safe. We got them to pay off the KL and even got a lifetime warranty. I am pleased with it. So much so I took it to Ocotillo Wells when it was only 12 hours old!
johnj92131
Bo, Did you look at the 3.0 diesel Grand Cherokee? If so, they why buy the Hemi? JJ
shelbyluvv
There are NO Eco Diesels for sale anywhere. They are failing emission testing like the VWs did. Chrysler silently stopped selling them. I like the sound of a V8 also, sooooo
DirtyComanche
That's a terribly inconvenient solution to a transmission problem.
HOrnbrod
That's the 9-speed tranny, si? It was a POS from the beginning and still is. WTF do you need nine speeds for anyhow? Or FWD? I'm sticking with the JK's............
shelbyluvv
That's a terribly inconvenient solution to a transmission problem. It was a joke of a "fix". It ruined a good Jeep for us. DirtyComanche
I'm sticking with the JK's............ At least then it's only the traction control that's trying to kill you. "NO, NO, THROTTLE! THROTTTTTTLE!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAACK!!!!" as it senses wheel slip when trying to pull onto the highway and reacts by cutting throttle while applying the brakes.
yellaheep
Yeah the V6 is ok in the KL, but in the WK2, not so much. We had to search to find our Hemi Grand as well. LOVE it in Sport mode....... :D Didn't know about the diesels being such a problem. When we were looking for our Hemi Grand, there were quite a lot of them on dealer lots. I wonder if they just stopped making them and sold off what they had or if they returned them to FCA? What do you mean "lifetime warranty"? As in for the life of the loan? Which it always has been. Mine turns back on with key cycle... Just have to remember to shut it off before I try to do anything where I might need throttle. I've never looked into it, but if you could just delete it cutting throttle, or override cutting throttle if more throttle is applied, the system would work a lot nicer... Not sure if there's programmers out there that would allow a guy to play that level of a parameter, I just have a Procal so I could turn off the TPMS and make the speedo right (which is about all it can do). They had a couple V6 WK Trailhawks but I figured if I was going all out I might as well get the Hemi and increased towing capacity. They are in hot water for the diesel issues right now. I think they pulled the plug on producing any more diesels for now. The warranty is pretty much a bumper to bumper, $100 deductible warranty. It is for mine and my wife's lifetime and 1,000,000 miles. It cost us an extra $2500 and was worth every penny. It does not kick in until we kill the factory warranty. http://www.jeep.com/en/service-contracts/maximum-care/new-vehicles/index.html
DirtyComanche
What year is yours Dirty? On my 12 and 15 it stays off all the time. 11. And being a Canadian model the 'safety' features may not operate exactly the same.
HOrnbrod
Last year of the 3.8 - entirely different animal. I never had a 3.8 JK so :dunno: .
DirtyComanche
Yeah, I wish I could have found a 12+, and for that matter a Rubicon (or at least one with a rear locker) would have been better for me. It worked out though, I traded a truck I couldn't sell and didn't want for it, so one way or another I was ahead. I'll admit I'm rather attached to the stupid gutless orange bugger now, which isn't so helpful because I've got way too many vehicles and it would probably be the easiest one to sell. :rotf:
johnj92131
Did not realize that Jeep has apparently pulled the 3.0 diesel off the market. But it makes sense. I have to wonder if the Jeep 3.0 diesel uses a Bosch injection pump. Bosch apparently did the VW software defeat device. Re: Jeep diesel. I found this from earlier in March: Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. (FCAU - Free Report) stated that it has been charged by U.S. federal and state authorities, including the Securities and Exchange Commission for excess diesel emissions by some of its vehicles. The automaker has received many inquiries, summons and requests regarding the issue. Additionally, several State authorities are also investigating the issue.Last month, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) had charged Fiat Chrysler for illegally using software to modify the emission levels from the diesel-powered Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs and Ram pickups. According to EPA findings around 104,000 vehicles had software which did not properly reveal the emission of nitrogen oxides. Notably, avoiding the disclosure of software which affects the emissions is violation of law. According to EPA, Fiat Chrysler may be charged with a fine of $4.6 billion. However, Fiat Chrysler has denied the claim. Moreover, the company confirmed that it is taking care of the matter and will cooperate with all the government requests. The company is also undergoing several other civil lawsuits. shelbyluvv
It is well worth it to me. I keep my vehicles for a long time and plan to have this one for a really long time.

mjeff87
Y'all keep figuring out the issues with these new fangled Jeeps....I generally run about 10-15 years behind new models LOL. I swore when KJ's first came out that I'd never be caught dead in one, and now I own one. I said just about the same thing for the KL, but the more I see them around the more accepting I'm becoming of them. I'll probably look for one when I decide to move on from the Libby, but that shouldn't be for a good 5-7 years from now. By then all the problems should be figured out...at least a little better than "yeah, let's just delete the 3-1 downshift. No real need for THAT". :rotf: Sharp looking 'Hawk you gots there Bo...congrats!
