Anyone's truck ?

Looks like an electrical short under the instrument cluster area to me.  See how melted the lower dash area plastic is next to the steering column?  What high current wires are in that area?  The smoke from burning/melting plastic is all over the interior of that truck and the only heat on the roof is just over the dashboard.

I would have thought the fire originated from the passenger side , the lower dash is non existent on the passenger side while the drivers side is melted but still there . Maybe the blower motor or resistor ? Exhaust?

It would be nice to know to prevent this from happening to other MJ owners....

I've seen a couple of XJs catch fire behind the heater controls as well, probably due to that plug overheating. Not to mention the blower motor resistor. Wouldn't be a bad idea to check that every so often.

could have been a mouse nest in the duct where the blower resistor is.  that thing gets wicked hot.   :(

Two years ago, went out started the Chief let it warm up, came back out ready to go, cab was full of smoke...

Lucky didnt actually catch fire, thank god. Cleaned the mice nests out of the heater box, ducts, and replaced the resistor.

New SOP for all of my stored toys, I put moth balls in old socks and put them in strategic locations in the vehicle, under the heater outlet, seats and in the engine compartment. Why engine compartment, I had some massive bird nests in one of my XJs that didnt have front cowl.

When I need to get it out, I remove the moth balls and let it air out a day or two before I use it, I know it's stinky but better than doing a clean out or dealing with a fire.

I work for a company that does fire restoration.  I've been on a few (Over 1000) fires.  Passenger seat is my guess.  See the patterns on the passenger door.  Windshield is more melted on passenger side.  Drivers door glass lightly affected.  Just a guess.

Agree. Looking at the firewall, most of the heat looks like it was concentrated in this area.
