Spare Tire Security Hardware

Recommended Posts

I believe these came on some '86 MJs. I found one at the JY and have it on my '89 long bed. The keyhole slots that the rods sit in are not accessible and are in the wrong location relative to the spare in the SWB.

You are exactly right Mike, as usual. 86 models only. If you ever find another one, let me know.

Do you know if those were fitted to the earlier or later 86's?  because when I ran my vin many years ago my truck actually had an 85 build date, but it's got the winch style (broken). or if it was an option for people to pick.

That's pretty neat.

Anybody happen to notice the setup on the load-sensing proportioning valve in that first photo? I suspect that truck has no rear brakes ...

That happens to mine every time I get tires installed/rotated when they lift from the frame and let the axels drop. Now I watch and as they start lowering the vehicle I make them stop, then I get in there and push the valve to the correct location as they drop it.
