keeponjeepn
i am new hear. just checkn to see if anyone knows if i need to change the inspection plate when goin from ba10 to ax15 transmission? also would a bellhousing from a 87 to 93 wrangler ax15 4.0 work with my 89 comanche 4.0.. the current bellhousing i have is from a 94+ ax15 external slave. but it doesnt line up 100% to the bolt holes on my motor. any help is apreciated
87MJTIM
Did the swap last year. The plate is the same for both BA and AX. For the bell housing, there is no 87 or 88 AX15. The AX15 first appeared in mid-89 in all jeep lines. You'll have to examine your 89 to determine if you have the BA or AX. The bell housing for the BA10 will not bolt to the AX15. Later AX15s with external slave will have inter-changeable bell housings with earlier AX15s.
keeponjeepn
yea pulled the ba 10 out of the truck last week. tryd to line up the bellhousing that came with the ax15 i bought there is a bolt or 2 that just won't line up
87MJTIM
You'll need to get a bell housing for an AX15 (not AX5 or AX4). Preferably an external slave bell housing - 94+.

87MJTIM
Do you have a picture of it lining up to the trans? I swapped a BH for an internal slave and external and everything lined up. (90 AX and 98 AX)

88whitemanche
http://comancheclub.com/topic/31891-ax15-differences/ You can compare your bell housing to the one in this thread...
87MJTIM
If the bolt pattern does not match up, you may have an AX5 bell housing. 87MJTIM
Here is a shield for an AX15. Compare the lower right portion to your bell housing. Yours has a flat/straight side. The shield has a more rounded edge to it.

keeponjeepn
I got a brand new luk pro gold clutch from my buddy pretty cheap. Do i need to change out the flywheel for this tranny swap. And will my crankshaft sensor in my truck work
87MJTIM
I kept the flywheel that was with the BA10 The CPS goes with the flywheel and the engine electronics. It doesn't care about which trans you have. Good to hear you got it lined up.
keeponjeepn
Also i have the ax15 bellhousing internal.
