Toyota is making some sweet trucks

Both comparo's I saw say that the Colorado is a better truck.

Every thing I have read also claims the Colorado is a great truck.  BUT, the Toyota will still sell for more money when it is time to sell.  AND you will very likely have spent less money to maintain the Toyota then the Chevy Colorado.  Toyota has earned a rock solid reputation.  Just see what Consumer Reports says about the 2005 (or any other year) Tacoma vs the same year Colorado.  Chevy has a long way to go before the come close to matching the reputation of the Toyota Tacoma.

I love that sticker! Haha.

...or is the Jeep just leaking oil?

I wonder if they finally solved the frame issues with this gen.

If Toyota is still using Dana as the supplier for the frames, I am sure they started coating the inside of the frame. Toyota is a manufacturer that learns from their mistakes.

I haven't driven the new Tacoma yet, but I can say the Colorado is a pleasure to drive with a nicely laid out interior. Had one for a few months as a company truck before I left the job. The Colorado was world's better than the Ranger I previously had.

Was the Colorado you had for work a 4 cylinder Work Truck with just 2 doors? Or the 4 door version of the Work Truck?

I am not sure if it was classified as a 'work truck' from GM or not. Was a 2wd 4cyl with extended cab. It also had carpet instead of vinyl flooring, pleather seats, usb and 120v outlet, and a full NAV radio with Bluetooth and backup camera. That 'stat screen' with the gauge cluster was full color not a LCD. It was real comfy and averaged 27mpg highway and 18 mpg hard city (30-40 start ups a day).

The first day I took delivery I had it in a ditch hunting for a Fiber Optic cable. The traction control worked remarkably well transferring power to the spinning tire.

If I ever needed to buy a new truck, I would seriously look at the Colorado.

A friend has one of the diesel Canyons on order. They look pretty nice. I hope it proves more reliable than the Dodge Ecodiesels we've got at work. To be fair the issues we've been having with them are electrical and not the motor itself and the last one was operator error (ignored the regen warning) but two of them have taken a trailer ride back to the dealer and the other two are booked in for a recall that caused the second trailer ride, with one of the other two showing the symptoms. Three outta four ain't great.

Until Toyota can bring a mid-sized truck with a fuel efficient diesel engine, I won't look in their direction when purchasing a new truck.

If I'm able to land a new job in the company that I've been eyeing up and applied to my commute is going to get a whole lot longer.  As a result, I will be purchasing a new vehicle and retiring some of my current fleet.  I am going to take a very long, hard look at a Chevy Colorado (or GMC Canyon) Duramax.

It's actually a little surprising Toyota doesn't have a diesel, considering how common they are overseas. Given your strict import laws it might be less common down there, but I have yet to see an imported Japanese truck or SUV without a diesel. I see three on a fairly regular basis out here, and given the fact that I'm in a rural area with a small population, I'd say that's pretty telling as to whether or not there's a demand. I've for sure seen more diesel Hiluxes out here than I have MJ's.

Considering every single manufacturer sells a diesel in a small truck overseas, and that emissions standards are pretty similar between here and Europe, and that every North American manufacturer has been selling diesels for longer than I've even been alive and has had to get them up to emissions spec too, they shouldn't even have to do huge amounts of development. You're right, there's no excuse.

There are several guys on the duramax forum I'm on who are receiving their canyon/colorados. Haven't heard a lot on them yet, but they seem pricey for what they are. As far as I know, they only offer the 2.8 Dmax in the higher ended crew cab models. Hopefully they offer it through all trim levels. I think they'd have a much larger audience.

It's available on all models except work trucks.

I feel bad for the guys who pre-ordered their Duramax trucks.  They were screwed over countless times on their expected delivery and dealers were getting their orders prior to the pre-order customers.

No kidding. A few were talking about giving up on their ordered trucks, and grabbing one off the lot. Sounded like a mess.
