shelbyluvv Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 I have a 93 engine with a 97 stamped valve cover. It has developed a pretty nasty leak. What gasket should I use with my combination?
shelbyluvv Posted August 22, 2015 Author Posted August 22, 2015 Yep, that's what I used. Fit perfect.
Nacho88 Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 I just picked up an 88 ....would the FelPro be the way to go as well ? 4.0 I6 5 speed
Crash Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Make sure you keep the metal inserts from the old grommets. The new VC does not come with the inserts, just the rubber. For a renix or earlier HO, with an aluminum valve cover the gasket is different, but felpro makes a nice rubber gasket for them too.
dunnc1991 Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 I just picked up an 88 ....would the FelPro be the way to go as well ? 4.0 I6 5 speed Yes, make sure to get one for your motor year. Make sure to buy the more expensive rubber gasket. Only go with the cork if you want to do it again.
88mjblue Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Felpro rubber gaskets are always the way to go, and they come with the metal inserts built in.
Crash Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Felpro rubber gaskets are always the way to go, and they come with the metal inserts built in. For the aluminum cover maybe. But the stamped steel cover has rubber inserts with metal "bushings" inside them, that go along with the gasket itself. Unless there is a specific gasket that takes those out of the equation.
Strokermjcomanche Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Here's felpro gasket numbers and years of applications ..
91Pioneer Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 You guys keep saying rubber, I believe the PermaDry gaskets are silicone based. They are total awesomeness, worth the extra $.
Arch_Stanton Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Fel-Pro VS50458R is the one that comes with the rubber grommets needed for the stamped steel cover.
