There were only two MJ tail lamps only in 88; the common all red and the chrome like the below. There was nothing special for the Olympic edition if that's what you mean.

My Olympic edition tail lights had no Olympic markings/logo. Were just the standard light.

Yep. My '88 Olympic has regular ol' tail lights.

 

 

 

However........

 

I have had a couple '87-'90 with these in black trim.

^^ 87 was the last year for the black tail lamps from the factory. The chrome lamps went to 89.

You see the chrome lamps mostly on the Laredo models. The black lamps I've seen on everything else.

My friend has an '86 Comanche X, and it has a chrome one on the driver side and a black one on the passenger side. We were curious which one was original.

I think the X was a mid-level model. Pure guess, I'd say the black was probably the original.

I'm thinking the chrome trim was 86 only?

Chrome came on the 86 XLS and the 87+ Laredo models.

The chrome tails were still available in the 88-89 parts manual. A local guy has a 89 Laredo he bought new and it has the chrome lamps. I suppose if the black or chrome tail lamps were leftover at a dealership they would sell them to anyone.
