JeepcoMJ Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 project88, that's what I was worried about. it's not a tow point.
mjdoa Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Hey,Pete,I'm heading to the metal supply shop at lunch. Do you think it would be smart and or necessary to triangulate a couple smaller brackets out to the corners to stop any side to side movement? I will not be towing, but may winch with it if the need arises.
mjdoa Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 I really didn't mean to resurrect this thread, just wanted to make an example of Pete. :D But I guess now that it's done, give us some more pics,ya'll.
500 MJ Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 JCR Offroad (Stage 4) Front: Hommade Rear: Write-up here: http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12148
Pete M Posted October 1, 2008 Author Posted October 1, 2008 I thought about the triangulation and decided it wasn't necessary. But it can't hurt, so if you want to, go for it.
mjdoa Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Thanks,I guess depends on how bad the steel place wants to rape me. edit:$50 for the pair.
mjdoa Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 $500,what did you paint those with,it looks great?
garmj Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 $500,what did you paint those with,it looks great? Looks like Wrinkle Finish Paint you can get it at any auto parts store and if applied correctly it looks killer and covers imperfections ,as I sat it will cover cat s#!!t. 8)
500 MJ Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 On my blue MJ (not the ones that I built in the DIY thread), I had them both bedlined with "Extreme liner" at the local body shop when I had my truck bed done. Kinda Pricey but I think it was well worth it.
garmj Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Good thing with the Wrinkle Finish is if you screw it up you can touch it up with a spray bomb cheap.
comanche89 Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 i just got my rear bumper from protofab today so i will post both of my bumpers in a day or so
mjdoa Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 I guess it'll be wrinkle paint. Jeez, right back to the 70's. Front has that on it,might as well. I'm getting brackets fabbed,I'll get them Thurs or Fri,do the deed this weekend, I'll stick up some pictures then too. Thankyou $500mj.If I would bother to sirch, I would have found your build thread. I'm learning.
reson46 Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 Hey,Pete,I'm heading to the metal supply shop at lunch.Do you think it would be smart and or necessary to triangulate a couple smaller brackets out to the corners to stop any side to side movement? I will not be towing, but may winch with it if the need arises. I felt it was necessary in my case to add gussets/triangulation to assist in side to side deflection. I knew at some point I would end up in a situation where it wouldn't be a straight pull from the rear. Flat plate, even 1/4", will bend fairly easily when subjected to those types of loads. This shows the gussets that I added. I ran them almost to the shackle hanger to help transfer as much of the load as possible in a side pull to the uniframe. Willy
mjdoa Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 Thanks,reson46.I just picked up the brackets. They are almost exactly what Pete M had built. Now that I see them in person, and am planning to be able to winch off this bumper,I'll gusset it also. Will do it this weekend, have some scraps I can use to beef it up some. Btw,yours looks great, super heavy cuty.Nice job.
reson46 Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 Btw,yours looks great, super heavy cuty.Nice job. Thanks. At first I thought you mistyped cute instead of duty. Willy
mjdoa Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 No.It was supposed to read duty. Have to hide and hurry posting at work. Sorry.
garmj Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 Thanks for your old bumper mjdoa and the advise on posting pics. It was good to meet you the bumper will bolt to my brackets with drilling only 2 holes. [/img]
FxRacing282 Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 why would someone make an invisible bumper but not the bumper brackets?? it just dosent make any sense
Pete M Posted October 7, 2008 Author Posted October 7, 2008 He probably ran out of invisible steel. It's not like it grows on invisible trees, don't ya know. :D
project88mj Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 yeah it like $4,000,000,000,000 per square inch and he spect all his money on a comanche i can't think of a better way can you
garmj Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Sorry I forgot to have Scotty turn off the cloaking device. [/img] I only use that device for insurance claims.
mjdoa Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Now straighten out the end before anyone sees it, and remove that dopey sticker. :laughin: (I have another one for mine,if I ever get a roundtoit)
garmj Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Hey I am just glad to have a good useable bumper, searched the internet for a month been cheated and lied to by internet parts stores. I will soon straighten thje bumper corner and repaint the bumper carefully masking around that sticker to preserve it.
