On the subject of wheels/tires

Recommended Posts

I decided not to reinvent the, uh, wheel and went with soft 8s in 16x8. I just got my 285/75r16 tires in. For me 16s worked out cheaper than 15s. I think 16 is the new 15 now that 17 is the new 16 and 18 the new 17. If you know what I mean.

Just sometimes gotta be in the right place at the right time.

4 16" MOABs with tires.... $225.00

CL find.  And the super cool guy held them for me until I was out his way.

Also had the MOABs on a prior XJ and run them on the 05' KJ.

Always like the RAVINEs as well and ECCOs are doable just not a first choice.

I'm a huge fan of OE wheels. They just last. Now I live in the salt infested north tho. Aftermarket wheels last maybe 2-3 years at best before they look terrible. I had those DCII wheels and they looked like crap even sooner.

Buy a set of spacers, good ones, and run some JK wheels. They are the best bang for the buck IMO right now. I've paid up to $350 for 5 wheels and as low as $50 for 5 wheels. The deals are out there!

I am going with a set of Charger 2325's

probably throw a set of JK bfg take off tires on them eventually, but there is a set of 245/70/17's for $150 locally that I'm going to use first.

I grabbed some Jeep centers for them as well, and yeah, I'm likely going to paint them ... either a Satin Black or a Graphite ... it will better match the eventual paint job the MJ will get.

But, hey, I liked black wheels long before they were cool.

Early chrome addiction days.   The original plan was to slam it with bags w. 18" wheels and flare the fenders over them. Longbeds look good slammed. Got sidetracked later though..........

Don, You were actually going to slam it?   Say it ain't so?  And you actually had a tube bumper too?   :???:

:rotfl2:   Yes, I actually was, just to do something different. A local shop specialized doing this and I was a frequent visitor going over plans for the first known (to me and them) slammed MJ. But the plan didn't last long and I came to my senses.

The tube bumper wasn't factory; it was an aftermarket unit manufactured by Genuine Steel.
