Camper shell topper mods, what have you done?

Recommended Posts

Something must be incorrect with my iPad. The reply window doesn't have any of the tool icons to click on for adding pics, vids, links etc.....

Ah, yeah. That's cause you're using the mobile version of the site. If you scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page, it should have a "use full version" button, if you don't mind using the full version. My iPhone doesn't seem to have trouble with it.

Alternatively, you can always manually enter the BBcode tags in the text box. Do a Google search for a complete listing, but this:

results in this:

4_site_logo.gif

Edit: ignore the colours in the code box. It interprets the :/ as a comment marker and changes the colour automatically. Also, the url between the tags is the one you obtain using the steps in the above linked articles.

Come spring time I plan to re-install the topper on my 86 then outfit it with a solar array and power bank with camp lights interior and exterior. I am hoping this thread will provide some useful information to help design a sleeping platform and storage.

Ah ha. Didn't realize I was viewing in the mobile site. Edit. I'm actually using the full version. Still no icons

I started googling images for ideas over the weekend. You don't realize how much time passes when you stumble into a 100 plus page thread on expo portal about storage and sleeping threads.

Ran across this build for a Tacoma on Yahoo.  Lots of pictures and some decent ideas.

Mods for my canopy/camper/topper include re-screening of the side windows, painted the exterior from dark blue to clearcoat beige to match the rest of the truck, and installed an LED light from an RV which uses a quick-connect to aid in easy removal of the canopy when necessary.

I considered a storage drawer and sleeping arrangement set up made of wood in the bed and a series of curtains for the side windows, but decided against all the dead weight in the back of the truck when it was not being used for camping 362 days a year.

The number on mine shows that it's actually for a Ford Ranger so it's a little short. Rob (automan2164) however has one that is designed for a Comanche. "Designed" is a very loosely based term when it comes to WilderNests too... huge mounting flanges under these so most 'Nests fit on many trucks.
