About to do a oil change. Iv got a sticky lifter and was told to use marvel mystery oil, I'm not fond of putting stuff in my oil. How's it do with the renix engines? Would you recommend it? Thanks in advance(:

You'll probably get a lot of different responses,

but I like and use MMO when needed.

I've used it in my fuel system as a fuel additive, and as air tool lubricant more than I've used it in the engine oil, but I don't think you have to worry about it hurting your your engine.

I usually use a quart or so of transmission fluid when I have a lifter tap, but I could see using MMO instead.

Good luck.

How much should I put in?

Don't mean to sound like a smart @$$ but read the label it will give you all the details, don't be afraid if you pour a little more than they recommend you won't hurt anything.

Haha no need to feel like a smartass would be the best opportunity to anyways. Just wondering not always the best to do as label says so was curious if this was on of those. Thank you for the responses everyone

You're welcome, you can also use ATF like jpnjim said it has a lot of detergents and works really good to free up gummed up lifters try half a quart if you decide to try it.

I like MMO, but would NOT ise it as a lubricant for air tools. It has micro abrasives in it that may affect the tools. With that said, if I've used it on gunked up, noisy engines with good results; going so far as to use it to unstick the compression rings on an old ait cooled VW that had no compression. Ran fine afterwards.

I have used both MMO & ATF in the past. Both stopped lifter tick....a hazard of liking Pontiacs I guess. I also pour MMO through the spark plug hole of an engine that has been sitting before cranking it over.

Put a quart in there and drive it about 50 miles before you change it out.  Mostly a detergent in this application.

Hydraulic lifters like nice clean oil and a good filter with a  check valve to prevent drain down.

Randy has a point.

Use a Wix or Napa filter. Change oil. I love Rotella T3. Use a quart of MMO with it and do a change after 1500 miles or so.

When you start up and have the lifter tick, shut the engine off for half a minute and then restart. Is the tick gone?

High quality oil and filters are essential, like Cruiser says. I run Wix filters and use 5-40 Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel oil in my Jeeps.

I'm running a napa filter and valvoline 10-30w just did a oil change about 150 miles ago when i put the engine in. Engine only has 96k miles on it. I think ill do another oil change and run Rotella t3 and a qt of MMO. Do you recommend Wix or Napa filters? Also yes if i shut it off wait and start again it'll still have it.

Thank you everyone for your responses!!

Napa is made by Wix.

Napa has them as Silver, Gold, and Platinum.

They're designed for different oil change intervals.

Silver-about every 3000 miles

Gold-7500 miles

Platinum-Synthetic oil and extended intervals

You can buy the Silver ones really cheap!!
