Ok, so both of the rockers are smashed on my 1990 MJ.

I want to cut out the rocker panel and weld in box channel. I have been looking on forums (mostly this one, NAXJA, and Cherokee Forum etc) for someone who has cut out their rocker panels and welded in steel. I think I want to do 2x6.

If anyone knows of someone who has done this or of a thread about this, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Another 2x6x3/16ths in mine here too.. Pretty straight forward. Cut, slide in and weld top/bottom.. That's all I did and ive slammed them, dragged them, everything. Still going strong.

I installed 2x4 1/4" box in place of my rotted out rockers. I like the 4" box since it fits snugly under the doors vs the 6" box that creates a lip outside the door that can capture ice, mud, etc.

Ok so one thing that i have a question on, did you cut on the outside of the pinch weld? but kept the pinch weld? I noticed you don't have supports going to the frame
I cut the whole lower pinch weld seam off , it all came out as one piece which also makes it easier for someone else to patch there rotted rockers. In one of the pics you can see that the portion that was left landed perfect on the lower edge of the 2x6 so it welded and blended in perfectly .

ah ok. So its plenty strong without welding braces to the frame?

I have drug these things over and through some gnarly stuff and they have held up so far . I plan on adding some supports/guesting at some point but haven't come up with something that doesn't hang down like most iv seen . When I do my exo cage it will tie into some slider kick outs and tie everything in very nicely . IMO they are very tuff as they sit right know and I don't worry about them when I'm out wheeling as there's plenty else hanging down low to worry about first like my rear drive shaft that's all beat up now !!

Mine are just C channel welded over the rockers, I plan to add some bracing but haven't got around to it.

Even without the bracing they have held up great.
