Brown Dog Offroad Motor Mount Kit

So late last night i thought i was having trans issues, as many of you may have saw i posted a thread about the trans. It turns out that it wasnt even the trans me and my helpful brother poped my hood before we were about to go to the shop to try and figure out the trans issue and to change his brake master. well he looked down on the passenger side and noticed the motor mount was compleatly broken and it actually sheared 2 of the 3 bolts off and broke a section of the front boss off for the mount. then noticed the driver side mount was compleatly gone too. well dude to the 2 sheared off bolts i found this big bulky kick @$$ bracket and mount kit made by Brown Dog off Road. I will prolly be purchasing the SU2572-0HRX, super kit with ultra flex rubber. I'm only looking at buying this product due to the sheared bolts and the broken boss b/c it uses 5 other mount locations witch will solve my problem if my brother can't get the 2 sheared bolts out there will still be a few other mount choices due to how the kit is made. and it comes with all new Grade 8 or M10.9 Hardware, and i think they just look so badass and beefy. I was curious if anyone on this forum has ever used this kit? and if so what do you think about the kit and is it worth it to buy the kit to make me and my little brothers life alot easier. Many people use them to fix the exact problem of sheered bolts. Note that their frame side mounts will introduce more vibration into the body. However, you can use their engine side brackets with new stock replacement rubber frame side mounts.

This is a known issue.
 
1) Unless you're going to get silly with the skinny pedal, 2xSAE8 screws on one side won't be a huge problem. You'd be better off with three, but if you don't get silly you'll be okeh. 
 
2) The Brown Dog engine mounts use two or three additional holes on each side, and spread the mount/clamping force over more of the block. This is invariably a good idea, and I'll probably be doing it as I refit my 88.
 
3) The primary reason that the screws snap is because, sometimes, the screw holes in the block aren't drilled & tapped deeply enough. This causes the screw to bottom out in the hole, so you end up torquing against the bottom of the hole instead of stretching the screw (as you're supposed to do. Not your fault - you aren't doing anything wrong.) The screw is not stretched properly, and the head is not butted up against the bracket, so there's some room to move there. Vibration then causes wear cycles on the screw, which generally leads to rupture.
 
The easy/cheap fix? When you replace the screws (3/8"-16x1.25", as I recall,) put two flat washers under the head before you screw it into the hole.
 
The check? Take a feeler gage (.003" to .005") and try to slide it under the head of the screw. You'll be able to get under the corners (look at the hex head, and you'll see that the surfaces curve toward each other slightly) if it's a standard hex head - if it's a flanged hex head, you should not be able to get under the head anywhere. If you can slip the gage under the head, you have a problem. If you can touch the shank of the screw, you have a big problem!
 
In no case should you reuse the screws after you take them out - they'll be stressed under the head, and you'll have a significant reduction in strength. Replace them outright, putting washers under the head as I mentioned before. The washers will make up for the slight lack of depth in the hole (two of them will be about 0.125" or so,) and allow the screw to be preloaded properly.

Thanks for all the input guys I would of thought someone used this kit but it's alright. I will be purchasing this kit tomorrow, as I didn't get my disability check yet so my brother just got an insurance check from someone rear ending him on his motorcycle so he is gonna loan me the cash to order the kit for the time being and I am ordering the whole kit with the brackets mounts all new hardware and everything and my awsome brother is gonna install the kit for me. I will take lots of pics and post up a tech article/how to when we complete the install.

I have these mounts, they are excellent, but I have more vibration at idle than I ever did before even with the bolts loose like they mention in the instructions.  I have the rubber ones, not the poly ones.

More vibration for sure. Ultra-Flex rubber is a misnomer. Way too much vibes for me - ditched them quick and went with new Mopar mounts. The BD mounts have their place, but it's not in a street rig.

I kno this post is a month or so old now. Earlier last week I recived my mounts, overall just from opening them they looked like a nice strong product and they came with great instructions. My problem now was getting the sheared bolts out of the passenger side. I did not have the clearance to use a drill. My little brother who is very mechanicly inclined also tried his drill with left handed bits and everything and he just couldn't get on them straight enough to drill. So he grabbed the propane torch and heated the bosses up on the block. He was able to use a small hammer and flat head screwdriver to back the broken bolts out and he actually was able to get them out clean. He than started to install the mounts which was a pain considering the truck was going down hill and just a jack holding the engine up. But he was able to get all the mounts and brackets installed. They look great in there and they seem to be a strong product. I'm pleased with them sofar. I'll take some pics tomorrow and throw them up.
