mjcanoe
Goverment Policy : Snake aAttack (for Peace Corps) 1) If you are attacked by an anaconda, do not run The snake is faster than you are. 2) Lie flat on the ground. Put your arms tight against your sides, your legs tight against one another. 3) Tuck your chin in. 4) The snake will come & begin to nudge & climb over your body. 5) Do not panic. 6) After the snake has examined you, it will begin to swallow you from the feet & always from the end. Permit the snake to swallow your feet & ankles. Do not panic. 7) The snake will now begin to suck your legs into its body. You must lie perfectly still. This will take a long time. 8) When the snake has reached your knees, slowly & with as little movement as possible, reach down, take your knife & very gently slide it into the side of the snake's mouth between the edge of its mouth & your leg, then suddenly rip upwards, severing the snake,s head. 9) Be sure to have your knife. 10) Be sure your knife is sharp. GirsMJ86
man those fangs digging into you must not hurt at all either. shouldn't it also state to make sure your knife was not carried on your ankle/boot? Alex

mjcanoe
For what it's worth, that was a direct quote from the U.S. Government Peace Corps Manual to volunteers who work in tha Amazon Jungle as recited in the Portfolio Managers Weekly. mjcanoe
mjcanoe
Eagle, Sorry about that. I kinda understand as my son has same phobia. One time we were camping/hiking & he saw a snake the same time the snake saw us. I still not sure which one "ran" away the fastest. No harm meant. mjcanoe
Kenosha Warrior
God! I have a snake phobia. Reading that gave me the shivers. And it was NOT funny! I'm with you buddy. even a milk snake in the pet store made me flee to the far corner of the store. but, no harm no foul. Unless a garter snake appears in my mailbox. JeepcoMJ
i don't get phobias. the only thing i'm really scared of is someone wrecking my truck, or friends and family getting hurt. or having one freaky @$$ death along the lines of a saw movie... DirtyComanche
Constrictors bother me a bit. But not tooo bad. Okay, an anaconda would be a bad thing. What I hate is snakes with venom. Obviously in other parts of the world you get some fairly nasty ones. Here we get western diamondbacks, which the venom of does VERY nasty things. The last guy in my town that I recall getting bit walked about 10 feet then started to bleed from his eyes, ears, mouth, nose... :puke: He lived, after about a month in intensive care and using up ALL of the anti-venom in 3 different hospitals. Tracker
I work for Cal. Fish and Game and often have to deal with snakes. We get calls from the PD's when they do a dope bust and need help. I guess dope and deadly pets go together. We have an extra nasty rattler out here called the Mojave, or the Mojave Green. Their venom is a neurotoxin (like a cobra) and a hemotoxin. I live in the area where the two rattlesnake ranges overlap so we have to know how to identify the two in case we're bit. I wear leather gaiters when I work (or wheel) at night and the critters are crawlin'. I have a lot of snake stories but I probably shouldn't share them.

Tracker
so you're tellin us you've got a forest service XJ right? haha No, actually a '99 1500 std cab, short bed, 4WD, 5.9L. 3.92's w/LSD. 137K miles and still runs and climbs like a raped ape. Most of the FS LEO's out here have Expeditions and don't know where the 4WD button is. I wouldn't be surprised if there really is a policy and procedures manual that makes the recomendations mentioned for snake attack. We have some that are just as brilliant, IMHO.
