a1awind
apart from my right "in dash indicator" not working(....i think i need a bulb....but i am gonna wait and do a full led conversion ) i noticed that i have 1 turn signal on each side....below the headlight. I distinctly remember my 93 cherokee having the side marker lights that doubled as turn signals too (they would flash in sync with the one under the headlight in the day, and alternate at night) when did jeep start making the side marker a turn signal rather than just a parking light....or do i have a problem? GirsMJ86
The corner lights are turn signals as well. If they are not flashing then you've got a problem. Most likely a grounding issue or your flashers on the fuse box under the dash are going bad. When my turn signals were acting strange it was the flashers, replaced them with some new ones and all was well again. And just for future reference. Your Jeep doesn't know if it is day or night, the lights alternating kicks in if you have your parking or headlights on or not.
onlyinajeep726
The side markers are not turn signals on the early MJs and XJs. Chrysler made that change sometime in the early '90s ('91-'92?). So, no, you do not have a problem there. Here's a link explaining how you can make them function as turn signals on early XJs. It's about half way down the page. GirsMJ86
hmm Could have sworn those lights always flashed on all the MJs I've had. Maybe all mine have just had electrical issues that worked in my favor. I'll have to check the '88 I just picked up, and double check my '86. I'm pretty sure they do flash on my '86 though because I had light issues when I got it and I replaced the flashers and things started working normal again. onlyinajeep726
To the best of my knowledge, that was a Chrysler thing. Neither of my '88 XJs, my '86 MJ or former '90 XJ did that. My former '96 XJ, however, does that. Who knows... I know it can be easily converted for those who want that.
nitroxsteve
On my 88 only the lower lights flash.
cruiser54
My 90 does the "Chrysler thing" but my 88 did not. It does now. I have the write-up if anyone wants it.

ftpiercecracker1
My mj was made in december of 89, it is a Renix AND the side markers also blink with the lowers. In sync with HL OFF, alternating with them ON. Guess i'm just special. :dunce:
