Oyaji
... I do not like Obama. I do not like ACA. Neither have, in my opinion, addressed constitutional values, and neither holds this nation's best interest. ... The flat refusal by liberals to meet the conservative proposal that either we are all held to ACA, with no one exempt, or it doesn't apply to anyone...is enough validation of Republican concerns that it is beneficial to none of the American people. The government shutdown is easily seen as being due to nothing more than the fact that ALL politicians are puppets, and that neither the few who have tried to make the ACA applicable to everyone or no one, nor those who KNOW it's not benifical, will back down. It's all a joke, it's all a distraction from the truth. .I confess to not fully understanding the root cause behind the government shutdown. The portion of your post I quoted was illuminating, and I would like to hear more details and discussion down this line. . Particularly I would like to hear what Rand Paul has to say on the matter, if for no other reason than that I hold his father in such high esteem. ComancheKid45
More of the same whining and excuses, and itll be this way untill The American people Wake Up, put down their Wii-pods and Techno brainwashing devices, and put their OWN lives on the line in order to start building a better future......Theres only 1 way to stop all this crap, and thats to forcefully take OUR country back! Oyaji
I was wondering what folks think the effect of a default might be, and what effect it might have on politicians? . Colorado has a process for recalling its state legislators who raise the ire of their constituency, as was shown in weeks past. Is there a process for recall of US Congressmen, and if so, does it vary by state?

I agree... The US government needs to turn over everything to the states and then shrink itself to the size that was intended to be when this country was founded. The state militias could collaborate to secure our borders While I'm pissed about the current state of affairs, why not talk about people dependent on government assistance. Some people need help, I get that. But why do I have to work my @$$ off and miss seeing my daughter grow up just so I can give 20% of my money to be redistributed to pay for someone to sit on their @$$. Assistance needs to be temporary not a way of life. Why should they be able to buy Red Bull and candy bars? How about putting restrictions on what can be bought. Oh yeah and how about drug testing applicants for assistance? I have to take them for my job. Shouldn't they have to take one to spend my money. I once saw a lady talking on her cell phone, driving a newer cross over SUV, pull into the food bank and pick up a box. Some people's priorities baffle me. JeepcoMJ
Can't remember where, but I recently read an article about a city or state that has instituted drug testing for welfare, at a cost of $30,000, with a saving of $339,000 as a result of people refusing to give up drugs and simply not bothering to try and get welfare knowing they wouldn't pass. Florida did this and it ended up with the state losing around $150,000 with less than a 3% failure rate. Not all poor people are deadbeat drug addicts who chose this path. JeepcoMJ
you're right of course, But that money was better spent there and keeping our government from funding the habits of those who do.

Probably one of the oldest in the country because of all the retiree immigration. Most seniors on welfare don't do illegal drugs; they are more into legal prescription medications via Medicare. Welfare drug testing in some of the other states would most likely yield entirely different results.
JeepcoMJ
Another good point, Don. Lord knows we'd be spending the money better on welfare drug testing than giving millions to syrian rebels (al'queda). Me, I think that no matter what way we go about it, this country is so far in the sh*thouse with debt that we just can't keep going on the way we are. buffalob
I could not have said it better. ride172
I know I'm just whining and it won't do anything to reduce spending by the Federal Government but it makes me feel better to get it off my chest. So yesterday at work I was talking to a coworker who asked me about my insurance. I told him my wife pays $500 and change a month for our family. I then said I felt like it was justifiable expense because when my daughter was born and when I had ACL surgery we only had to pay $3000 for each one. He then says his kids (plural) didn't cost him anything cause his girlfriend didn't have a job and he was on unemployment. He also said they weren't getting married cause they would lose their "benefits" because his gf wouldn't be a single mom anymore. That angered me. My wife works so we can have insurance. She works long hours too and we are rarely home at the same time. We work hard so we can pay our taxes and be upstanding citizens. With all the handouts made available to people today they actually plan their lives around being eligible for free healthcare, food, childcare, and housing assistance. Then they have more kids for free and this in turn gets them more assistance. Of course they don't care for the kids and they in turn grow up to be drains on society as well. The whole situation makes me think this country is done for. The majority now has no pride, no work ethic, and no desire to bite the hand that feeds. The name needs to be changed to the U.S.S.A or the United Socialist States of America.
NHMJXJ
"Fathom the hypocrisy of a government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured ... but not everyone must prove they are a citizen." Now add this, "Many of those who refuse, or are unable, to prove they are citizens will receive free insurance paid by those who are forced to buy insurance because they are a citizen." ~Ben Stein~
jimoshel
Anybody here familiar with the battle of Athens, Tennessee? August, 1946. If not, then Google it, Wikipedia it. Hell. Go to the library and get a book. Best argument for the 2nd amendment I ever saw.
nitroxsteve
I was not aware of the battle of Athens thanks for posting, and I agree this is one of the most important reasons for the 2nd.
