Leaf Springs Question

Recommended Posts

My truck has the typical D35 and stock springs and it has become apparent that they just arent up for what i use the truck for. To give you an idea, i have a topper on the truck, all aluminum (two people can carry it) and some wood in the bed and its squatting pretty far, with the spare tire removed too. I would love to get my hands on some Metric Ton springs, but i know the are about as rare as hens teeth. So i was wondering if there is a substitute? Do i have to make my own bastard pack? Can stronger springs be bought? AAL?

Check out the list found here. Metric tonne springs were just a larger spring pack with an overload spring, so you could easily clone that with a bastard pack if you want. Could also upgrade the rear shocks to these, I just ordered some and will be getting them in next week sometime if you want me to take before and after pics.

Should you want to Replace with New Springs, There are a Number of Reputable Spring Makers across the Country.

I have found there is Hell Creek Springs, New Albany, Mississippi

They have the Regular & Metric Ton Listed in their page.

I believe Hell Creek announced several months ago that they were no longer selling MJ springs. Search old threads.

Well if they are still selling MJ springs I would get  the Hellcreek MT springs, I have their MT springs and love them.

As soon as i was done posting this topic i scooted over to Hell Creek and according to their site they are indeed still selling MJ springs, metric ton only as it seems. Shipped to my door it would set me back 235ish, which doesnt sound bad whatsoever, but right now i'm so broke its not even funny. :(  I can't even afford to rub two nickles together.

Blue, what are you running for shocks? How stiff is the ride? Has the payload increased noticably?

I just checked out their site, and I see no Comanche MT springs. Chevy/GMC springs only.

However, fromt their site:

Hell Creek Suspensions leaf springs are manufactured in New Albany, Mississippi by Laher Spring Corporation.

I imagine they still have the specs for them, but you're probably going to have to pay quite a bit of $$$ to have them make one single pair of leaf packs.

Another option would be addign an S10 or Dakota main leaf with the eyes cut off to your current spring pack. Should give you added capacity with a minimal amount of lift (maybe 1 or 2"), much like a MT pack.

Except that Metric Ton springs shouldn't give any lift at all -- unless the springs you're replacing are sagged. The factory MT springs provided additional load capacity, but they didn't provide any lift.

What I plan to try is using a set of XJ main leaves with the eyes cut off as AALs for a set of standard MJ springs. The XJ springs have less built-in arch, so they won't add much lift (I think), but they will add load capacity.

Click on product line, then springs, then you have to scroll over until you get to the JEEP section, then scroll down until you find MJ. And actually they seem to still carry both regular and MT.
