1tonMJ
I have lived in NY all my life, except for a year in NYC, 4 in the Corps, and a year in Philly. Finally had enough, gun laws passing were enough to start the move. We have our house packed and rented, and a place rented in Athens TN. We will be driving down on the 28th. I plan to set up a garage to wrench in, I think it would be cool to put some heads together and iron out some collective Manche issues!

HOrnbrod
I hope you're not a college football fan. You won't get any satisfaction in TN. You should have relocated a bit further toward the southwest to the state that begins with an
Dadinator
See I think he should've stayed a bit north... Especially if he's a college basketball fan. Seriously though, looks like you're in a nice area. As you can tell by my sig pic, I like to ride. I get down to smokey mtn national park as much as I can. You look to be pretty close to that. Enjoy the new life. Things move a bit slower than they do up in the NE.

Comanche County
Its too darn cold in KY to be considered part of the South.

1tonMJ
Always good to have another MJ in the state! :waving: And I am extremely happy to be there. It is very nice country up here in NY, but some of the people are too damn dumb to take care of themselves, and there is the constant attack on my rights. See I think he should've stayed a bit north... Especially if he's a college basketball fan. Seriously though, looks like you're in a nice area. As you can tell by my sig pic, I like to ride. At work I am balls to the wall and I know that'll have to change. Another one! And yes, we certainly love our guns down here. What do I have to do to get a pistol for my home? I read the law as permit to carry, but you may go purchase one for home or range. Long guns I imagine you can walk out the door with them that day. The first monday we are there we will get our drivers licence changed, and plates for 2 Jeeps. After that can I head to Ammunation?
Minuit
After that can I head to Ammunation? Short answer, yes. You don't have to do anything except for the paperwork and background check, handguns or long guns. Carry permits are also pretty easy to get here if that's your thing (they're shall-issue). You can transport guns in vehicles as long as they're cased and in view unless you have a carry permit, in which case you can put them anywhere. Cities might have special ordinances, but that's how it is down here. There isn't any restrictions on magazine size or anything like that. Hopefully that's it.
Automan2164
The gun laws in the south are so mucj more lax. When I was in tech school, I met an older guy from Jersey. He decided he wanted to do better for himself, and go back ti school after living a sorted past. He had the thickest Jersey accent too. He told us stories about the time he spent in the south before coming into Chicago. The one I will never forget was just after he moved to South Carolina from New York, and called the local pd about the gun laws. This is how I remeber it: 'I'm calling about your gun laws...' 'What questions do you have sir?' 'Is it ok to open carry, or have a pistol in your car?' 'Yessir, it is. Is that all?' 'Wait-so you're telling me I can have a loaded pistol, just laying on the passenger seat next to me?' 'Well what the hell good is it if it's not loaded?' I smile everytime I think of him telling us that in his thick accent. Last I heard he was working on an oil rig on the coast, loving every minute. 1tonMJ
So I've been in TN for about 3 weeks and the only thing I am pissed about is not coming here sooner. I found a job in 4 days and it turned out to be a real chill cook job. I have met about 5 people that I mean to stay in contact with, and plan on going to an offroad park soon.I have already taken a few great rides through the Smokies. I ordered Zone's 4.5 lift kit, painted it Krylon Pumpkin Oranges, and bought a set of 35" hankook something or other tires. I will start the install as soon as the weather is going to be warm for a few days. Who is down for a meet and greet? Or beer and fire at my house. Plenty of spots to crash, bring a tent. dasbulliwagen
Having grown up in Michigan for almost the first 30 years of my life, living live in the south (mid south) has its advantages, especially in the winter. No salt, being able to ride year round, its been great. Spent a year in Nashville right after high school, I thinks thats what got me hooked. Now in North Carolina and not looking back. Enjoy it!
