jimoshel
Just got in from swapping a alternator on a 1990 MJ, 4.0. There is no way in hell any one is going to convince me Jeep doesn't have a team of mechanics and engineers stationed at the end of the assembly line whose sole function is to see if they can't find a way to make a routine repair more difficult. :fs1:
Geonovast
I've always found the alternators to be on the easier side. Last one I did took me an hour and 20 minutes, that was from when it died on the side of the road to being jumped and driven again.
jimoshel
An hour and 20 minutes? It takes me an hour and a half just to find a wrench, and I could be holding it in my hand the whole time.

Comanche County
Renix alternators are kind of a pain, best to remove the airbox to access the bottom adjuster bolts and the rear bolts. A stubby 13mm ratchet wrench pays off here.
54bobby
are we talking 4.0 or 2.5??

whowey
My alternators are under the battery? :dunno: No... that stupid adjuster bolt on the bottom of the power steering pump though. It can be a pain to get at.

ComancheKid45
No... that stupid adjuster bolt on the bottom of the power steering pump though. It can be a pain to get at. Ah, yes it is! I then agree, removing the airbox is the way to go!
