jimoshel Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Just got in from swapping a alternator on a 1990 MJ, 4.0. There is no way in hell any one is going to convince me Jeep doesn't have a team of mechanics and engineers stationed at the end of the assembly line whose sole function is to see if they can't find a way to make a routine repair more difficult. :fs1:
Geonovast Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 I've always found the alternators to be on the easier side. Last one I did took me an hour and 20 minutes, that was from when it died on the side of the road to being jumped and driven again.
jimoshel Posted February 19, 2013 Author Posted February 19, 2013 An hour and 20 minutes? It takes me an hour and a half just to find a wrench, and I could be holding it in my hand the whole time.
freakjeep93 Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 thats funny i can change a alternator in my f150 in like 10 mins lol
Comanche County Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Renix alternators are kind of a pain, best to remove the airbox to access the bottom adjuster bolts and the rear bolts. A stubby 13mm ratchet wrench pays off here.
ComancheKid45 Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 My alternators are under the battery? :dunno:
whowey Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 My alternators are under the battery? :dunno: No... that stupid adjuster bolt on the bottom of the power steering pump though. It can be a pain to get at.
ComancheKid45 Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 No... that stupid adjuster bolt on the bottom of the power steering pump though. It can be a pain to get at. Ah, yes it is! I then agree, removing the airbox is the way to go!
