Project Jailbird

Recommended Posts

well i finally got a good web connection and i can finally start posting about my comanche build. unfortunately due to cycling through phones i don't have many pictures, the good news is because most of the last 2 years has been on a boat i havnt done much to document

when i first bought her:

picking her up after a deployment because she had been towed. painted the hood and front clip cause i dispise red and chrome

continued getting rid of the red

decided to throw in some bedliner

prep work:

finished product:

also decided to rip out the carpet, treat what little rust was underneath and spray the leftover in the cab

more to be done once i move to texas. driving her from san diego to corpus christi in a week!

the bedliner floor board is awesome. been wanting to do that to mine for quite a while but like most, i'm lacking the funds. looks like a good start to a project.

its not too expensive, the liner is supplied by u-pol for $100 comes with enough to do one coat for the bed and then the floorboards, a spray gun and if you have a compressor your all set stuffs durrable too with nice smooth texture I'm gonna buy some more bottles of the stuff give the bed probably 2 more coats and then take off the bed and hit up the underneath and frame

I'll definately have to look into it. it's a lot nicer than carpet. I'd like to do my bed also but gotta wait til i do the bed bob

after 20 hours and 1400 miles on the mj i finally arrived in texas from san diego. overall trip went well with almost no issues. one hickup came just outside of yuma when i noticed a slight vibration every 100 or so feet. when i pulled over to take a look i saw that my drag link sagged a bit on the driver side ball joint. i tightened her up and continued on my way and had no further issues until tucson and figured this would be a good time to stop, get some sleep. when i woke i began searching for a parts store or atleast a junkyard where i could get a link in better condition than mine. there was no dice on the junkyard or parts store but i did come across a private owned garage and the old man who owned it didnt like the idea of welding the tie rod to the bar but he would let me do it. not being very experienced with welding i did the best that i could

and it lasted the next 800 miles! so my next upgrade presented itself on my trip. was wondering if anyone had any experience on beefed up steering linkage, saw the rustys but don't like how the stabalizer sits in a spot to be bashed by rocks. price isnt an issue.

I've been busy at work. I haven't been beach cruisin in a while. There's not much else unless you can find a mud pit somewhere. The 4x4 shops in CC can get expensive. There's one down SPID past Airline. I get what I need at the jy or online.
